I am curious to see how many people are on disabilty for having bipolar. I am told it is possible to get it if your illness is bad enough that you can't work.

Yes, I am on disability. It took me 2 years to get it. I was denied twice. I had a lawyer help me from the very begining.

I'm on disability, too, and also had to go to the hearing stage to get approved (2+ years), which is more common than not. Fortunately, my husband has a good job. I don't know how someone who's disabled is supposed to support him-/herself during this lengthy process.

Hey -

Haven't been on in a bit, but wanted to let you know that yes I am on disability too. I am also dx with BPD, and GAD -
went for my hearing and had an attorney with me, and received the letter in the mail saying that I was approved. I have been on it for 3 years now. Best bet is to have attorney with you.

I'm not on disability...for whatever reason I have been fairly successful at work...recently it did start to effect my work...however...not to the level one other than myself would notice...

It is possible to be on disability...from the stories I've seen here at PC it sounds like a long a battle...the posts to this thread gives you some clues...

I will tell you that even though I was high functioning at work...it didn't mean that my world was...

The rest of my life was a complete and utter reck...

So where do you think you fall?

I have been since 2001 I think. I was lucky and recieved it on my first try. I think they saw my numerous hospitalizations including the state hospital and believed me. My husband has fought for years to get it but always denined. I recommend a lawyer.

I am currently trying my 3rd time around. All the attorney's around here want you to be denied and then will help. So I am currently waiting to probably be turned down again and then get help. I had an attoreny previously, but in the middle he stopped doing disability. I am married this time around and I hope that doesn't affect things.
