How do people cope with akathisia? I have what my pdoc called internal akathisia. I don't feel like I have to move necessarily but I have a great internal restlessness. It is very uncomfortable and makes me feel like I am crawling out of my skin. We already reduced the latuda and I am already on Klonopin and propranolol. Is there anything else I can do in the mean time to help get comfortable?

I was given gabapentin and cogentin in the hospital. Propanolol is preferred over cogentin but I can't take it. The gabapentin did the most to calm it down.

I've always just had to switch meds. Akathisia is the worst.

Yeah, I tried and tried just to cope with it but in the end had to stop the latuda. It's awful, sorry you're going through it. Hugs.

latuda had the same effect on me, among others.
was supposed to be another treatment, after other meds, for a really bad mixed episode, but in several ways it contributed to some of the symptoms, including restlessness.
I wish you luck with this, my agitation, whether it be during an episode or stable times, where it does happen often, is treated pretty well with .5mg xanax. I'm past the point of abuse or anything, so thats why in my opinion, I can say it with certainty that it's been helpful.

Akathisia sucks so bad! I'm sorry you're having this problem right now. I've had it. Worst feeling ever! I hope it goes away soon for you.

I'm on propranolol too. I thought I read that you can't take it with maxalt which is what works for my migraines. (Sumatriptan is an old drug and doesn't work!)

I took the wrong dose of Latuda last night because it was already in my pill box. Tonight I will start on the lower dose. Hopefully some relief soon. Worse thing is we are going away for the holiday and I have to spend the next 5 days with my in laws whole family. It is hard enough when I am feeling well. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I hope I survive.

All akathisia is "internal" (with external symptoms too, like pacing). When I got it from Abilify Cogentin worked, but not until 3mg, which gave me vision side effects. It went away when I stopped the Abilify. Latuda at 40mg brought it back. This time we used propranolol. That finally worked when we got up to 80mg (and I still added .25mg of Cogentin until recently). You don't say at what dose you're taking the propranolol...? I didn't find benzodiazepines to be helpful at all.

Best way I could describe it is internal restlessness and unable to get comfortable. I said to my T that I felt like I was always in a fight or flight situation and in flight mode.

I take 40mg of propranolol twice a day along with 0.5mg of Klonopin 4 times a day.

I was on 80mg of Latuda and am dropping to 60mg.

I had my Latuda reduced to 20 mg and the akathisia stopped. Just monitoring my moods now. This usually isn't a good time of year for me.

Thanks Crook32, I'm sorry that you are going through this... it do sound very similar to what I went through. I was tired of myself. I hope you feel better soon
