I just got a letter that said:

Please come to our office
We received a favorable medical decision from the disability determinations office. We need to speak with you to determine if you are eligible for SSI benefits. You may be required to have a representative payee.... blah blah

Am I getting closer? I'm confused.

They want you to come in to be sure your income is ok and that you can manage your money yourself. But you are approved and officially disabled! (I realized I should have put this on my other post but everything occurs to me late right now--manic brain)

Like really already approved? I only started in like March. Do I just tell them my step dad handles my account?

Like really approved. You'll get a check next month (they pay for July in August). You can have it paid to your stepdad and he hands it out to you as you wish or you can have it paid to you. They make sure you are capable of handling your own bills if you want to do that. I don't know how you are going to handle the money so whatever works better for you.

Thanks beyondtherainbow. Isn't that really fast? I read that you and your attorney get paid for all the months since you started. Is that true? Will the money go directly into my account? It's my account my stepdad just handles it.

You get paid since your date of disability. They determine that so they'll tell you what it is when you go to see them. However there is a waiting period or something.........I forget what but I was approved in 11 weeks and didn't get paid for the first month. Your attorney gets paid a portion of your backpay if you even have it (unless you have other arrangements but that's the normal). If you have the backpay arrangement and don't get it the attorney doesn't get paid, as I understand it. I didn't use an attorney so someone else may clarify that.

I didn't get any backpay because I was approved five months after applying. I think the pay back thing only applies after you've been approved five months. At least, that's what it was like for me.

Congrats jtassar!

Thanks guys!! I'm excited. But isn't it unusual? It was barely 4 months.

Yes, that is pretty quick. My case took six months with an attorney, but I got it on the first try and am still on SSDI as I don't think it's even possible for me to work. I have serious memory issues and can't retain much of what I learn, plus I have a LOT of anxiety about work stress. It's very triggering.

I'm glad you got your approval.

That is really quick. Mine took several months although I went out on disability for MDD before they had diagnosed bipolar II. I was so sick I had to have a company that specializes in helping people get disability. I did get retroactive pay from the deemed date of disability.

I'm glad you got approved so quickly.

Before when I applied I had never been hospitalized. Now I have. Should I mention it or would it make a difference?

I had to wait 5 months as well but got back paid to the 5 months. If you need a payee you'll have to work that out. Yes mention you were in the hospital.

Congratulations!

You won't need to mention your recent hospitalization until your review, but you can if you want to.
