I'm so stressed out with finding an apartment. I don't know how the hell people can afford $1400 a month for a studio. Why is that the average apartment cost? Some of the cheaper ones are in sketchy areas.

This is 50 minutes outside Boston and 50 minutes away from work. Closer to work is an average of $1900 for a studio. Wtf. (And btw, I hate studios. I don't want one.)

I can't afford that. I don't know what to do. I'm living with my parents and want to move out, but how the hell can i?

I don't want to room with someone. People tend to trigger me. It's happened to me for 4 years when I tried sharing apartments with people. I can't do it anymore. I just can't.

Advice?

Could you make a list of stresses you are experiencing living with your parents so you can find solutions to alleviate them while you live with them and save money? Don't give up. Hang in there.

I commiserate. Rent isn't as expensive here in central nj but it's too much for me to afford on a single income. It's about 1500 a month for a two bedroom in the town I want to live in. I'm not willing to move too far because I'm very socially isolated and my family is in this town. Without them I would have nobody. It's cheaper in the city but it's also dangerous. I have a small child and I don't want him exposed to that.

Now that I took a less stressful job I am pretty much screwed because I took a huge pay cut as well. I hate living with my mom, she's not awful but it's just a constant reminder of my crappy childhood and I just want to be on my own. I feel like it will never happen though.

No advice, just wanted to offer support. Housing costs are just insane.

Have you thought about buying a small condo?
sometimes buying can be cheaper than renting.
Pick a female realtor to help you look.
good luck

I second this. I bought this place a few years ago and it worked out that it's less than rent. I have a three bedroom with a mortgage that is less than a one bedroom's rent. Never know until you try. Good luck!
