I'm reading "As Nature Made HimThe Boy Who Was Raised a Girl". By John Colapinto.

Identical twin boys were taken in to be circumcised. First one goes horribly wrong. A Dr decided to experiment on them - raise the botched one as a girl. It doesn't turn out well.

I'm reading a book called "Spark" which talks about exercise and its positive effects on various mental illnesses, and also working on the 2nd Harry Potter book.

I've heard thAt story. Very interesting. And tragic.

Right now I'm just reading my textbook for school. Very boring. I want to read something fun. Maybe I'll go kindle shopping. I like memoir mostly.

I love a good YA novel. It's a guilty pleasure of mine. I just love a well done young adult book. Years ago I read a series called "The Uglies" by Scott Westerfeld. I really enjoyed it. Recently I haven't been able to focus on anything so I decided to get the Uglies series on audiobook. Since I've read the story before, when my attention goes out I don't get lost in the book and can still stay on track pretty much. Audiobooks are a performance so it's different listening than it was reading and I'm enjoying that.

I haven't read anything in ages. A couple of years ago my psychiatrist recommended I read Van Gogh: The Life. I bought it and started it, but never finished it. I'd like to get back into it, but I always talk myself into just sitting and doing nothing.

I usually go for fiction, though. I do have a small stack of books that I'd accumulated but never started. I suppose there's no time like the present to pick one up.

Talking of books reminds me of a past experience I haven't really come to peace with; some years ago one of my cousins just up and gave away like 40 books that I'd collected over a six or seven year period. I was so livid! But, I didn't say anything; I just breathed the anger out. It was my fault; I had them stored at his mother's house...in her attic. He wanted to make space, but I was broke and lived in an entirely different state and had no way of being able to get to my aunt's... I still get upset about that whenever I'm reminded of it. I mean, those books were very important to me! I even had an entire author's collection!

I had a complete collection of The King's Singers . Never opened. In my parents divorce (they were kept at their house) they got "lost". Nobody would take responsibility for where my records went!

That's a shame about your King's Singers collection. I haven't listened to them in forever. An excellent ensemble, though!

Elsa- I read that "uglies" series too. Enjoyed them!

I made a goal in June for the summer to read 8 books for pleasure this summer. I am on #4 so I am slowly getting there...
I Just finished reading "big little lies" which was an easy light read about a group of kindergarten moms and a murder. And before that I read "behind closed doors" which was a fiction novel about an abusive relationship- it was pretty creepy but I couldn't put it down, I read it in like 2 days!

I'm now reading "all things bright and beautiful" by James Herriot. He was a veterinarian in the British countryside in the thirties and forties and wrote some memoirs of his experiences. He's a very funny and poignant writer. I used to read his books all the time as a kid. They're great. I forgot I hadn't read the second one yet so I bought it for my kindle today.

I've been binge reading books on Chernobyl. It is fascinating. The lies. The danger.
The impact on so many lives.

I'm reading Illuminae by Jay Kristoff + Amie Kaufman. It's an amazing sci-fi story that is written in a media format. I thought it would be difficult to get into due to the media format but it actually is better that the story is told that way.

Hey. I can't personally recommend this I have not yet read it
But I did read a recent magazine article reviewing this book and it sounded interesting.

Me too! I love YA novels. I always get crap for it because my husband and friends say they are for teens and I'm an adult but I find them so much more interesting and reading for me is an escape from reality. It's like I become a part of the book.
