I got a job for the fall!!! I was just hired as a teacher's assistant at a special services district near me. I'm so excited! This is the job I wanted. It's not teaching so it will be less stressful and it will give me a chance to decide whether I want to continue in teaching or not. It's still in education though and it will give me a chance to see how special services classrooms work and decide if I would want to be a teacher there. I will continue my master's program for now just in case I love it and do want to be a teacher there.

It's just such a relief to have a job! Unemployment is giving me problems so I wasn't sure if I'd even be able to get it. They're saying I was fired for misconduct which isn't true at all. I was going to have to contact my union rep and go through all that to get my unemployment. Now I don't have to worry about it.

I had a rough day overall with some triggering dreams this morning about being in IP and then the guy I was seeing saying he wants to see me again but doesn't want to "get attached". I was feeling pretty dejected but at least I have a job! I'm no longer unemployed!

I'm not actually sure lol I'm going down there tomorrow to get all signed up and start pre-employment stuff like TB test and drug test so I will find out then. I'm assuming I'll be starting the last week of August or so for training. I have to get my crisis prevention certification again and that will take twelve hours. So I have a lot of training to complete!

Now I'm freaking out because the guy said he was calling my references tomorrow. I'm afraid something will go wrong with my references. I'm afraid they will call my former supervisor and that he will tell them I was let go for underperformance and not budget cuts. Then they will rescind their offer because I wasn't 100% truthful in the interview. I should have just said Why I was let go. But then would they even ask why I was let go? I don't know. This damn anxiety, seriously, I can't be happy for one ****ing second.

I hope nothing goes wrong.

Usually a former employer will only confirm/deny that you worked for them. They worry about getting sued if they give out other information. a

I was fired twice in a year and still got hired 2 more times before I had to go on SSDI. Nobody ever knew.

^^Yes, BeyondtheRainbow posted pretty much exactly what I was going to say.

I know it's easier said than done, because I have a tendency to catastrophize too, but just try to take some deep breaths. Everything should work out just fine! Congrats.

Anxiety sucks. Even if something happens with the references (which I doubt), you will find another position. I have faith in you.

Here they call teacher's assistants "para-educators". I have two good friends who are paras and they love it. It is so much less responsibility and hassle. And you're not involved in the nasty school politics.

You are doing so well, tell the anxiety to eff off!

Well I filled out new hire paperwork today so I hope that means my references went through without a problem. The principal seemed happy to see me, even gave me a high five lol. I'm still worried but I'm hoping this is it. I just have to wait for a call from personnel. If I get that call I'll relax because that means I'll actually be hired. I'm not worried about the drug test or physical or background test. I've passed all those before. I'm out of klonopin so that shouldnt show up and I'll just bring my prescription bottle just in case.

I think it'll be ok. I hope it will. Thanks for the support everyone.

I got the official job offer today so I can relax finally. I actually got offered a teaching position at another school but I turned it down because I knew it would be too stressful. I'll be making half as much as I was making as a teacher though which will put me back living paycheck to paycheck. That will be stressful but I can handle it. I need this year "off" so to speak to re-evaluate my career goals. I'll be much happier as a para.
