Recently (about a month ago) I took a psych evaluation and discovered I was Dx with BP1. I always under the notion that I was less sever than that. I got a second opinion and they agreed. I don't know why but it has been eating at me for some time now. Have any of you guy had similar experiences?

It took tons of work from a really really patient therapist over 3 years for me to even get to the point that I have a mental illness AND need meds. Most of the time it was an either or situation. I would suggest getting a therapist to help you disgust the new Diagnosis. Psych central has been my life line a few times.

Yes, I was obsessed with the dx. Work with your doc and therapist to treat the symptoms. Keep posting here, you'll find lots of support. HUGS!

It can take a while to get diagnosed and “labels “can change.

Focus on treating your symptoms not so much the “label. “

Seeing a T can be very helpful in learning coping skills.

Took em 21 years in and out of different treatments to find bipolar, twenty three from the time I first knew there was a problem. I was in constant treatment for 7 years before I was DX bipolar.

For me the shock wasn’t the bipolar dx, but my pdoc’s recommendation that I apply for Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped. It’s not easy being that sick. That being said, meds and therapy really do help.

It finally took my former pdoc to try Lamictal instead of another tricyclic AD to diagnose. She didn't tell me, though. She was trying to treat the symptoms as well.

That being said, not everybody's flavor of MI is the same. There are some similarities but people express them in different degrees of severity.

Took me 10 years to be correctly diagnosed.
