This depressive episode has effected my cognitive function more than any other in the past. I have focus and concentration problems as well as memory loss. My thinking feels slowed. My brain feels dull. I can't return to work until these issues are resolved. My depression feels like it is lifting but as it lifts my brain feels more slowed down. Can anyone relate to this? Any advice?

I am mentally and physically slowed down during depression. I think it's pretty normal. Thinking of you... depression sucks!

I have impaired cognitive functioning even when my mood is normal. Still my tdoc thinks bipolar is to blame.

I'm noticing some errors in my Scrabble playing that i never would have made before. I don't know if it's my Summer depression [which i can feel is passing] or age [i'm 50]. But at any rate, i am starting to exercise my brain by studying word lists and anagramming and i can feel my brain waking up. Perhaps you could do some similar puzzles to get back into mental fitness? Watching "Jeopardy" is also good mental exercise and so convenient.

I definitely feel like my memory, concentration, and cognitive abilities are compromised during episodes, particularly mixed. I try to give myself a break and take it easy wherever possible when this occurs. Being a perfectionist, it's difficult to do, but I know bipolar is here to stay so I need to work around the symptoms.

Yes, yes, yes!!!! When depressed I think my IQ drops 100 points and I can't follow even the simplest train of thought. My anxiety is also causing problems but it feels my brain is too fast and I "freeze" .....not being able to catch up. Oh how this illness hold us back. (((Hugs)))

I cannot pay attention when depressed. My coordination is not as good. I cannot visually focus as well. I would almost flip your question the other way - are there people who can perform as well when depressed as when up? Or stable? I don't get stable so I can't really compare that.

Yes, that happens to me as well. I hope everything gets back to normal or baseline for you soon. Sending big hugs.
