Isn't the goal of medication to make you feel "better" I'm currently on lithium and have been having anhedonia and now insomnia problems so I'm also taking seroquel at 100mg. I start a new job Wednesday and feel like I can manage it like this but we'll have to do some extreme pretending. Anyways should I try getting off the lithium and trying another drug? My pdoc keeps saying lithium is the best for bipolar but I'm not getting better on it, even tho I'm not manic but also I'm not anything just flat and frustrated that I can't feel anything. Would trying a med change be too risky for me or would it be a good move?

Lithium made me flat as a pancake.

I've been on my meds that made me feel flat, and it's a crappy feeling. Although I'm somebody who hates med changes, it's done me good in the long run to either add, take away, or lower the dose of certain meds. Although I sometimes get flatness from depression in itself, but for most part, my med changes at least allow me to have a personality now. I felt a lot better, in the sense of not having that chronic "flat" feeling....so just some things to consider. Good luck!

Maybe your blood levels are not in the therapeutic range with the lithium. I feel flat a lot of the time too. I think it's the high dosage of zyprexa that does it not the lithium.YMMV

What would be the next best thing besides lithium? My pdoc keeps saying the lithium is the best for me but I'm feeling emptiness in every way. Can we ever feel "normal" again or is that a distant memory...

What meds have you tried?
I take lamictal, it has antidepressant qualities.
I also take abilify though took geodon for many years but my sleep was not good. so switched.

An evaluation of your current medicine regimen could be helpful. Ask your pdoc what the next best option is. Good luck.

I'm currently taking 600mg of lithium and 100mg seroquel for sleep

I don't think that is a therapeutic dose of lithium.
I take 200mg of seroquel to sleep at night.

Lithium wasn't a good drug for me so I switched (several times) some doctors think bipolar equals lithium but not everyone responds well to it. You might not be at therapeutic levels or perhaps it's just not the med for you. Good luck deciding what to do.
