The only thing besides this chronic insomnia that may be a sign of mania is my thoughts about Christianity and hoping God can save me from this. I'm also trying to shun these thoughts cause they've only led me to the psych ward. I feel myself getting angry and scared I just wanna get better 😞

This is how it was explained to me and it seems to make sense. Insomnia and mania are VERY different.......with insomnia, you can't sleep but are very tired. You feel foggy and lack energy. With mania, you can't sleep but feel energized and motivated. Insomnia has led to mania for me. I think it's natural to turn to god when you are suffering. If it's helpful, it's not a problem. I understand your apprehension based on past experience however and talking to your doc about your lack of sleep and religious preoccupation might be in order. (((Hugs))). No matter the cause, missing sleep for too long rarely ends well. I hope you find a solution.

Not sleeping can lead to mania. When manic, I feel motivated to stay up. I don't feel tired....I feel wired and as if there's just so many things running through my head: it can be new projects, etc. If it's mixed mania, it's usually related to things I'm delusional/paranoid about or fixation on really negative things. I don't experience the need for sleep during those phases, since I have excessive energy when manic. If you're simply just having trouble sleeping, then it's not automatically mania, but it's still important to get enough sleep, especially if you are prone to it.

Mania can be caused by lack of sleep and lack of sleep can be caused by mania. It's kind of a catch-22. If I were you I'd contact my psychiatrist and tell him everything about the job and about your symptoms. They should be able to help in some way.

That's the first question my pdoc always asks when trying to determine if my AD is making me go too high. How's your sleep. It has a big impact.

My doc also asks that question every time. "How's your sleep?" He's happy with my 8-9 hours/night. If I start to stray from that number too far on any regular basis, it's bad mojo for my MH in one way or another.

Sleep is the core of mental health. When sleep is off, mental health issues get triggered.
