Has anyone had trouble sleeping with abilify? Past two days I've not been able to sleep much. My mood has been better and I tried to go to bed at midnight, it is now 730. Yesterday I couldn't fall asleep till sun was up, but I did sleep till 2. Anybody have trouble sleeping on abilify? It is the my newest addition and have only been on it for 3 days.

hi. i take 20mgs in the morning. if i take it too late in the day, sometimes I have trouble getting to sleep.

the other thing i thought of...abilify is somewhat unique, in that it is a (major) tranquilizer, but its used to augment/boost antidepressants. maybe the low dose abilify+pristiq is causing some mood-elevation, "activation," etc. ? Just a thought.

I take 10 mg in the morning because it causes insomnia if I take it too late. I also have sleep meds so I'm able to sleep by taking Abilify sooner rather than later.

Some meds make you sleepy and some make you activated. If that is the case take it in the morning instead of at night. Also keep in mind that as your body gets used to a med this effect may change. I've had meds that made me speedy turn into sleepy meds. If that happens change the time you take it.

My son takes abilify and he started taking it at night but it kept him from sleeping. So he started taking it in the morning and he could barely stay awake. I had no idea what to suggest but finally started taking it at night again and now he sleeps fine. He also went from 1mg to 5 mgs in a month. So maybe the different doses affected
him differently.Best of luck to you. Insomnia sucks!

Hi Boogie!

Yes, I am only on 4 mg of Abilify and I've had chronic trouble sleeping since starting it even at just 2 mg.

I have needed to use temazepam to sleep, which I do not want to do long-term.

I take Abilify at 6 am; however, I am considering a trial of taking it just before I go to sleep, later in the evening.

I hope you find a method of taking it which allows you to sleep well.
Maybe we can keep this thread going and check-in as we try different approaches?

I hope you are having an enjoyable weekend!

Do you have a feeling like you can't sit still and always want to move?

A 5 mg dose is extremely small, boogie. I was once on 30 mg & was still able to sleep with the help of klonopin. It made me very restless at that dosage, Greenfish.

Yea I was able to sleep last night, although I woke up in middle of night with munchies. I was able to sleep after and had no trouble getting up. Anne it was just a hiccup on my sleep over weekend.

It kept me awake from a pounding heart and dry mouth. I think I was at 20mg but I quickly stopped it. Not getting sleep is a serious thing for me. Well for anyone with BP I think.

I sleep too well with Abilify. I take about 15 mg and sometimes can't wake up in the morning. I've been taking it for about five years continually daily. I am doing well but do admit when I initially took it, it was too activating and caused more problems for me. I was on Geodon at the time and wanted to get off Geodon really badly. Thus, I rode out the initial problems for about five or six months then peace came. I had problems with insomnia and psychosis but did not want to continue with Geodon so I fought with these issues and took time off from school and work. It was well worth it in the end. I am now doing ok with Abilify and am sleepy when I take it.

Don't get me wrong I think this med has been great for me. I've been getting a lot done, back at the gym, cleaning and cooking. Next up martial arts.

Boogie, I am glad Abilify helps!

It helps me, too, yet, the interrupted sleep continues, even while taking temazepam 30 mg.

I don't want to give up the Abilify. It really helps me, too, at just 4 mg (in a cocktail of other meds).

I am thrilled you are doing so well!

Congrats on your determination and your hard work.
