I take the Suntheanine brand. The company that makes the Suntheanine version has a patent on it, and they claim to do quality control, etc. Anyway...

...I have a bunch of bottles of the stuff. I get all my vitamins and such from an online, discount vitamin place. They were having a major sale, so I stocked up on the Suntheanine, 150mgs per capsule. I took it for a while, it was OK, I kinda forgot about it.

I was able to drop my Wellbutrin, and then my psychiatrist at the clinic offered to reduce something else in the line up. I was on 30mgs/Abilify, now I'm on 20.

20mgs/abilify seems better, for me. My mood is better, I have more energy, I concentrate better. Overall, I'm getting the benefits of a tranquilizer, without feeling...over-tranquilized, LOL. good times.

But, yeah...Suntheanine. Its an amino acid, so one must take it on an empty stomach. For me, that means its easier to take it first thing in the morning, with my coffee.

From reading about it, it seems --very-- safe at a wide range of doses. Larger doses, predictably, have a more pronounced effect, and the larger doses also last longer.

Yesterday, I decided to try high dosing it, since I have so many bottles in the stash. That and...if higher doses last longer, then I thought doing 1 massive dose in the AM might give me all day coverage, more or less.

It works! At high doses, anyway. Yesterday's dose was 1200mgs. Today's was 1500mgs, or 10 capsules. Yesterday's dose seemed to help with anxiety, concentration, overall...."STAY CALM!" kinda stuff, no sedation or drowsiness, thank goodness. I even slept quite well last night, and woke up...refreshed, relaxed, ready to get on with things.

So far, the 1500mgs dose seems...good. Some improvement in concentration, a sense of genuine calm (not sedation), slightly improved mood.

Just thought I'd post this, since it seems that a lot of people on long term psych drug treatment also end up taking supplements. I saw one very small study, with a group of people labeled with "Schizophrenia" and stable on tranquilizers, in which 400mgs/Suntheanine per day improved anxiety, activation, and overall "mental state" (I'm thinking there's a scale for all this they used...) over the course of about 8 weeks.

It's in tea, but you would have to drink a hell of a lot of it. I tend to be skeptical of herbals (the really good ones are used to make medicine), but there is some science backing up the claims on this one:

I've tried it before and it did nothing, just like all the supplements I've tried. They're just not effective for me. I'm glad it worked for you though.
