Recently visited the Mayo Clinic for a second opinion and the psychiatrist there advised that I switch from Risperdal to Seroquel to help combat the depressive side of my bipolar disorder. I'm a little anxious to say the least as I credit Risperdal with saving my life. Does anyone have experiences with either medication and/or both?

I use both. I use seroquel up to 0.75mg for sleep when running too hot, and I use Risperdal (anywhere from 0.25 mg all the way up to 3mg) when my mood swings are like to make me violent.

I've used both and I prefer risperdal. Seroquel seemed to make me angry and extremely tired. Risperdal has really helped with my mania without making me tired and angry. I was up to 6mg when i was really bad, but now im at 4mgs.

Why wouldn't your pdoc want to suggest one of the more activating APs, like Abilify, for depression?

Seroquel actually works really good for my depression. It works for my mania and when in psychosis too. IDK it is a wonder drug for and one I will always return to if need be ( at varying doses)
However not everyone feels that way about Seroquel lol. Def receives a lot of hate as well. Everyone is different so you just never know

Ugh! Make sure you slather it with Nutella and keep lots of water handy. The stuffing can get caught in your throat.

I’ve been on both at the same time and they are very different for me. Seroquel is to put me to sleep where as risp really helped with agitation and anger outbursts. I had to quit risp though because it messed up my hormones pretty bad.

Rispersal helped me with irritability in mania but also gave me akathesia. I'd be willing to try that one again.

Seroquel? Oh hell no! I gained 40 pounds, was a zombie and totally a nasty mean person 24/7!
