Does your medication keep you from having episodes of depression and mania?

So far, so good, but I remind myself not to take stability for granted.

My mania has been in check for several years now. I had been having significant episodes of depression. Only recently has it become better, but still struggle with depression from time to time. But the really bad episodes have left me for now. I sit up now. I walk to next door for a hotdog every so often. All of this despite being in very bad cirvumstances. I still am depressed, but I hope this feeling better continues. I need to continue to function so I can hold down a part time job.

For the most part my meds keep me fairly stable. There has been a few tweaks lately. My pdoc has me on Olonzapine and keeps trying to wing me off but when I do I end up getting very depressed. He cut me back down to 10mg a few months ago but left it at my discretion if I can stay there. I was doing good until recently and had to go up to 20mg even though the depression has been kicked in by situational events.

They take the edge off...milder ups and downs...but still frequent and mixed. When I see the new pdoc I'm going to insist on getting back on my old med regimen.

Meds keep my depression and hypomania pretty stable. It's anxiety I cannot get control of.

Risperdal got rid of my suicidal depressive episodes and most of my mania but didn't stop mild to moderate depression.

So far, so good. I'll get a hint of depression but it's short lived and mild.

Meds help us keep stable, but they aren't magic pills most of my break throughs a re angry depression or angry hypomania. Anger seems to be the common theme. I wish I could figure out where the anger is coming from. Although I'm kind of afraid at the same time. What if I do figure it out and my head explodes....

I have Lithium as my mood stabilizer. It works good for mania. I would sometimes still get some manic symptoms in spring and summer even while on Lithium. I was put on Lamictal for SAD....it worked for a while. Then I was put on Zoloft it worked last fall/winter. I had no SAD symptoms. Then spring/summer of 2017 I ended up depressed. My pdoc has been increasing the Zoloft.

My cocktail is working really well for me. But it's been a lot of trial and error for years. The Invega is the glue that holds it together. I went off it for awhile and went very psychotic very quickly. It has unwanted side effects but the good outweighs the bad for me.

What about a mood stabilizer? I'm not sure if you're on one or not, but my mood stabilizer (Lamictal) got rid of all my anger/agitation once the dose was high enough. (I, too, had anger that I didn't know where it was coming from.)

Lamictal might not be the right mood stabilizer for you, but there's trileptal etc.. It's worth asking about imo. I mentioned the anger/agitation to my pdoc and his immediate thought was "use a mood stabilizer". Turns out his idea was pretty good

Good luck
