Well it only took me about 50 years to realize why I get so depressed when fall comes. I finally remembered how miserable I was in the winter when I was a child. We were very poor and I didn't have a winter coat. My teacher made everyone go outside for recess. I told her I didn't have a coat and she would make me go outside anyway. what a beotch! You'd think she take pity on me and maybe figure out a way to get me a coat. But NO!

I agree with your assessment of the teacher.

"the things that pass for knowledge I don't understand"

I get depressed because my joints hurt and I miss the sun and warmth.

How are you now at keeping yourself warm? I tend to not wear socks and gloves, like feet and hands are SUPPOSED to be cold and theres nothing you can do about it.

What a horrible teacher , the mental and physical health of a child should always come first.

I have SAD and need to use a light therapy box every fall and winter, otherwise I become severely depressed. It doesn't take away ALL the depression but at least I don't get completely down or feel suicidal. I'm another person who absolutely hates being cold---my joints hurt and I don't want to move. I'm cold all the time too, no matter how warmly dressed I am or how high the thermostat is set. You'd think I have enough adipose tissue to keep me toasty, but no.

What a witch.

I hope you always have a warm coat now.

I had similar situation; not being properly looked after. Thin coat. Discoloured socks. Shoes pinching. And do you know what the worst thing was? I had to pretend I was fine so my father wouldn't lose his temper.

Big (warm) hug to you.

In my experience there are a few teachers who are outstanding. The rest are thoughtless or even cruel.

I'm sorry you had such a rotten experience when you were a kid.

I just put a light box on my Christmas wish list. I am hoping that combining that with the infrared heater I already have, I can put on some beach sounds, close my eyes and get transported away...

The other thing I plan to do is a weekend trip. Amtrak overnight to Kissimee. A day in a park, a day fishing and Amtrak overnight back home.
