When you experience mania or hypomania, does your health suffer as well?
Even if I don't feel the need for sleep, others observe that something isn't right with me. It shows in my face, and my eyes get puffy and red sometimes from being up so much. This is happening to me lately....this week actually.
Plus, I stopped taking care of myself, not eating properly and had to leave work early today.

I'm not at my highest point of mania.....more hypo. Not happy, euphoric, hypo. More of the kind where you stay up, get into various projects, not being able to turn off your mind, not sleeping. Just running and running. My health suffers when I get this way. Just wondering if anyone else experiences anything similar, like not appearing as healthy as normal or getting physical symptoms from not taking care of yourself as much?

If my Bipolar acts up my Fibro and psoriatic arthrithis flares ... If that flares up it will start my Bipolar to wobble...

They play off the other.

If I am Manic I forget to eat and get all ragey, I dont get the happy puppy rainbow mania.

I do get the happy puppy hypo and I do often get arthritis flairs with it but I think it is because I overdo it like today. I will take mass quantities of NSAIDs so it doesn't interfere with the butterflies and unicorns. I also get flairs without being hypo when I overdo it. Being hypomanic does motivate me to get in better shape because I feel younger and skinnier than the imposter in the mirror.

I don’t eat and can easily lose 10 pounds, which is nice and improves my health.

I don’t sleep, which causes the symptoms to get worse.

So mixed bag for me.

Since I am already thin, when I lose weight when manic or hypomanic, it doesn't really flatter me. I start looking like I need to gain. Others seem to take notice, but more in a concerned kind of a way.

The last time I was manic it was for 6 months and I lost 40 pounds. but i was healthy as a horse. And i'd pull an all nighter with no signs of being tired.

Mine is the other way around when my health is poor. I am more likely to have mania like last week.

When I'm euphoric hypomania, I'm the opposite. I eat healthy and even workout. Other than decreased sleep, I'd say my health is generally better.

Now the angry, irritable kind is different. I'd say the stress of it and decreased sleep is probably hard on my health.

My hypomania and depression definately effect my physical health. I get tense when I get manic and experience a lot of muscle pain. Then I take muscle relaxers and my mood goes down the toilet. When I'm depressed I stay in bed and don't eat even when I'm hungry. I'm diabetic so my blood sugar gets all whonky. I also get very stiff and sore from staying in bed all day. *sigh*

I had this really memorable mania a few years ago where I got super sick, fever, nausea, but could not slow down or rest at all. It felt simultaneously horrible and amazing. Weirdest feeling ever.

I've experienced something that sounds similar to this in the past. It's kinda hard to put into words. So strange.

I find my health suffers more when I’m in a depression, other than the lack of sleep when im manic. That really isn’t healthy.
