https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/sto...suicide-by-50/

I've been tired lately from quitting smoking so I've turned to coffee. I've noticed if I'm depressed and I drink coffee, it seems to relieve a little bit of the depression. I read this study that coffee reduces the risk of suicide in men and women by 50%. So it must have some antidepressant action to it, maybe the dopamine. Even when I've been really anxious, a half cup of coffee does not cause extreme anxiety, but a full one does. Luckily I don't deal with the same anxiety anymore, but coffee is great. I had a pumpkin spice latte today from starbucks and I feel great now. So everyone drink more coffee, unless you truly can't due to anxiety.

Figures; I just weaned myself off of coffee and drink tea now. But I drink a lot; that's why I quit drinking coffee. So I may get enough caffeine.

I'll never drink the vile stuff. Everyone around me drinks it and multiple studies show that it's good for you and lengthens life, but to my taste buds it's vile. Can't stand the smell ether who ever thought of having candles and scents smell like coffee isn't my friend. But give me chai, I'll drink that any day! Black tea with spices, yum.

This morning I had an Earl Grey, an English Breakfast tea and a green tea with mint. Been drinking unsweetened ice tea (also giving up sweeteners) much of the day. i think I am good on caffeine...

I usually think a lot of Harvard publications; yet, in all honesty, I'd seriously question that study.
Suicidal depression is much more serious than that which can be resolved with a cup of coffee.

That said, I LOVE coffee... very robust coffee... decaf. I am a big fan of Starbucks' dark coffees.

Congrats on quitting smoking! Wow!

I’m thinking someone else besides me has probably been told to avoid caffeine due to mania/hypomania?

Not that I listen. When I go hypo, I love my coffee even more. No insight

I have been told this by pdocs too. I’m not a coffee drinker but I drink black tea so I do get caffeine.

I’ve been told to stay away from caffeine to stave off anxiety. Some days I can go without my coffee and sometimes not.

As an alcoholic in recovery, coffee is the least of my concerns! I deserve it, dammit! Oh...& I absolutely LOVE espresso! The stronger the coffee, the better!
