I had my first appointment with a new psychiatrist today. He's so nice. I'm so happy. I've had such awful luck finding a good psychiatrist. He was fine with everything I was on, including clonazepam and sertraline.

Anyway, the combination of remeron and trileptal have been making me eat like a pig. I can't handle all of this eating! I eat until my stomach hurts, and then I'm STILL hungry, and I've obviously gained weight. He's putting me back on lamictal, and he's replacing remeron with topamax?

Does topamax make anyone on here sleepy?

I'm thrilled he prescribed me it because I know it can help with weight loss. I'm just worried it's not going to help me sleep. And I'm admittedly worried it's going to turn me into a moron.

I was prescribed it in the past for my headaches related to my optic nerve swelling. I did not experience sleeping due to it or drowsiness but it does make foods nasty. It changes the way your taste buds work I guess. There were lots of things I stopped eating.

It is noted for causing weight loss (I didn’t lose weight). I didn’t notice sleepiness with it, but it did cause some bathroom problems, so I quit taking it

Yeah. I'm worried it's going to turn me into an idiot.

I'm hoping it won't. Gabapentin didn't turn me into an idiot, and I know it turns a lot of people into morons.

A friend of mine took topamax and it made her, as she described it, "stony baloney" lol. It also made her lose a drastic amount of weight. (To be fair, she has an eating disorder, she may have attributed a lot of the weight loss to the topamax to deflect questions about her eating. But I'm not sure.)

Thanks everyone for the responses! I really hope it helps me sleep. I'm a sleep away from an upswing right now.
