Alarm clocks - which one to choose?

I have read an article on this site about how old-fashioned alarm clocks are better than cell phones, and went to Amazon to shop for one. However, searching for an old fashioned alarm clock resulted in my seeing ads for high tech alarm clocks that mimic sunrise and have other functions related to light and sound.

Has anyone used them and what would you recommend?
