Hello everyone,
I’m feeling really low today. I don’t get on FB everyday. Well this morning I got on and seen a post that concerned me. I later found out an alumni sister of mine had died “a while ago”. I was part of my alma maters alumni chapter in Nashville. I work on a committee with this lady (Mrs. Janie) and others. We all moved in the same social circles. Going to athletic events and fundraisers together. I had a disconnect with the group since being diagnosed and later moving to Oklahoma. I tried to stay in contact as best I could. But it seemed the calls were always me calling them...so I stopped calling. Then I would go visit Nashville and the group would act like we regularly communicated. I never thought a fellow alum on the committee would die and no one would let me know. I’m truly hurt today. I worked as a volunteer for this group for years....along side the same people. Their problems became my problems. When I moved I updated my address. I still have the same e-mail and phone number. I’m out of sight, out of mind. It would not have taken long for someone on the committee to send me a message. I’m trying to relax and forget about this. I’m watching cartoons. __________________ #SpoonieStrong Spoons are a visual representation used as a unit of measure to quantify how much energy individuals with disabilities and chronic illnesses have throughout a given day. 1). I'm very sorry about the loss of your friend. And it took so long before someone told you. Best wishes.

You can still send a card if you want.
I’ve moved a lot, and your experience is not unique. People just forget about you when you move away. I’m not saying that they were right. I’ve tried connecting on fb with people that are long-distance—they connect but then most of them ignore my posts. My coworkers from my previous job—same thing there. They used to respond to my posts when we worked together, but most of them — not anymore.. also some people quit communicating after my husband passed away. Said their piece to make themselves feel better and that was it! My online friends that I’ve connected to on fb are more likely to respond to my posts. |

That's tough Coco. Mental illnesses like bipolar already set people apart and, personally, i've found the whole experience of being ill this way to be alienating so anything that would reinforce that sense of being apart or left behind is hard to take. I hope you can take it in stride.

i am sorry. severe mental illness...can be all consuming. i rarely see any 'friends' from back in the day, before my breakdown. probably for the best. 1 kinda sorta keeps in touch, to a point.
if you're into a 'higher power,' religious organizations are often good places to meet people who will genuinely connect with you. I'm Christian, so clearly I'm biased, but...my experience has been that other Christians are a lot more willing to talk with me, spend time with me, and just...be, with me. i cannot speak for any other religious groups/belief systems, of course. i do hope things get better for you. you're not alone, and...if these people are/were anything like my 'friends' from years past, you're probably better off looking elsewhere for companionship. |
