Insaw him at another agency and he said he's pretty sure he diagnosed me With it then too. It kinda freaks me out a bit. But he read from the Dsm and it kinda fits. Seems like a complicated diagnosis and I'm finally used to admitting I have bipolar.

He said to ask my dr about it next time.

Sorry you're freaked out by the Dx.

Whatever the Dx actually is -- BP or schizoaffective -- you seem to have a wonderful care team who I'm sure will do their best to help you.

Try your best to focus on treating the symptoms and not the label. I know it's hard not to worry about the label, because I used to worry about mine too, but I think you got this.

BTW, I think the only time a label "matters" is when you're dealing with insurance companies. So I guess it might be useful to see what your insurance thinks. I know mine refuses to cover certain meds because of my BP Dx. (Not trying to scare you, but I think it's good info to know.)

I'll be fine. Just hard to take when you're used to being told one thing

I might also be schizoaffective instead of bipolar 1. My pdoc says it doesn't change treatment... Personally I think there's big differences between illnesses involving psychoses and ones that don't and a pretty fine line between bipolar with psychosis and SA.

I don't know what my Dx is currently but I stick with SzA because that's what my last dr put. It's so close between SzA and BPI but you need to be stable for a while to get an SzA diagnosis. So if you're getting SzA diagnosis you're actually getting better in a way.

Schizoaffective isn't all that complicated, it's really similar to bipolar. The only difference is you can have psychosis between episodes and not just during them.

Like other people have said though, labels are just for the doctors and insurance people! Just focus on taking care of yourself. You'll be fine.

I found the switch from BP1 to SZA bipolar type difficult too, but I know it fits better. In the end the treatment is quite similar.
