Holidays are very triggering for me.

Got 4h 14m of sleep last night and not tired. Also did tons of shopping already. Bought my mom and me new winter coats (even though I don't need one, as I have four already). Also bought my dad new boots, expensive @ss headphones, and an expensive @ss belt. Then I got myself a Kindle, Kindle case, 18 Kindle books. Bought other gifts. Did all of this within a 12 hour time period. Spent over $1k.

Yes, very much so. Thankfully though I don't have the means to spend outrageous amounts of money, cause if I did I definitely would. Instead I tend to just sleep and eat at more then usual.

For me, the means never stopped me, lol. Debt is a killer though! I have been known to spend money I don't have on many things I just don't need ... and may never use more than once. I'm very bad about that. I'd say in the last 3 years I've spent at LEAST $5000 on things I never really used and just wanted while in this "phase". I guess that's part of Bipolar -- I'm still trying to get used to the idea that I am bipolar.

bluebicycle, I have this overwhelming need to buy expensive stuff too -- I somehow ended up buying a brand new Ipad for my mom and a new phone for her. I'm kind worried how this one is gonna play out. haha.

If I had the money I'd go overboard. As it is now I go overboard.

Holidays do trigger me in the way of constant panic attacks. When I’m severely depressed I have a tendency to buy things for myself and others in the attempt to feel better. I overspend in that way.

Can you cancel the order(s) or return some items?

Can you afford to spend that much ?

Nah. I don't have any money. I couldn't spend a lot even if I wanted to.

Blue is a professional software engineer living with her parents. She can afford it. Though with the new Prius, paying off the student loans, and giving the SUV to the parents, maybe the budget is a bit tighter than it was.

How about it blue, are you manic spending, or are you still flush with cash?

I know I overspent, but so did my husband. Next year is going to be fun as we "recuperate" paying the cards down. I don't even know if the kids will appreciate what he got them. We have a month of waiting before we find out.

I'm trying to keep myself busy for the time being with what I have. Hopefully it'll work out and we can use our (diminishing) tax return to help pay for it.

This year I told my girls we will do Kwanza on the 26th. The rules are we each picked a person to buy a gift for. The max amount to spend is $10. I bought my mom and daughter gifts that were $12 at JCPenneys. If you look you can find deals on great things that are not expensive. I’m probably going to get my stepdad something this year but I’m sticking to my low budget. I have bills and I’m on SSDI. I don’t get extra to buy gifts. I refuse to get stressed over a holiday.
