It's only one study, and there are qualifications voiced, but this article may be of interest. As you read, keep in mind it is but the first study of such a relationship and by no means definitive. With luck we will begin to see more research in this direction.

Thanks for sharing. I use cannabis and have a prescription for sleep and anxiety. Doctors have cautioned me too saying it can cause psychosis in people with bipolar, so I need to watch what type I use and how much. It's amazing for sleep and anxiety, but still contraindicated in people with bipolar.

I smoked copious amounts of weed when in high school & college; there were definite signs of bipolar before I started smoking, however. The article points out that there simply hasn't been enough research in the area to make any definitive calls, but self-medication might be an additional cause for marijuana use, or dependence. I'm a recovering substance abuser, so I probably wouldn't be a good fit for a study like this.

Thanks for sharing. I hope there is more research done on both the benefits and harms of cannabis in it's various forms. I'm convinced that cannabis with high THC exacerbated or perhaps even caused all of my paranoid, grandiose psychoses. By cause I mean that I wouldn't have had them without THC in my system.

After getting in heaps of trouble I finally gave it up. I also gave up the benefits like increased energy and improved mood.

Only time will tell whether this hypothesis is true or not. The test will be whether I have another psychosis without cannabis. In addition to the thought disturbance it also reduced my ability to question delusions and recognize them as delusions. I do not know the extent to which I was hallucinating, which is pretty scary.

I'm thinking of trying CBD which is like Cannabis without the THC so not as likely to provoke psychosis but still good for sleep, anxiety and pain.

I use cbd oil for anxiety and a half cbd/half THC oil to sleep. I also have smokable THC and cbd stuff for when I feel like smoking it.
