Lithium makes me pee a lot (which doesn't bother me), and clozapine makes me constipated (which does bother me). Anyone know what could help with the constipation? Ive tried prune juice and miralax which help a little but not as much as I'd like. I had it before during a prior med increase and it went away so I'm hoping it'll go away soon.

Also just taking magnesium supplements can help. Try unsweetened kefir, which has more probiotics than yoghurt.

I take colace and a prescription called Amitiza for constipation although my current digestive issues have totally erased the need for these meds. It's weird after working for years to treat constipation to suddenly be fighting diarrhea. I've also used Senna and miralax in the past. Dried apricots can help and I find them easier than prunes which I hate.

Maybe add some fiber to your regimen? Citrucel, others.
I use Citrucel tablets/caplets. No fuss. I hope you find a solution. ![]() WC

I understand how horrible constipation can be. Cogentin, used to calm akathisia, was terrible in that respect. I tried OTC suppositories meant to help, and even they fell short. Have you tried oral stool softener? They wouldn't be good to take daily, but occasionally. Again, they fell short for me. I ended up stopping the Cogentin and using something else for my akathisia, but if clozapin works well for your moods, do give all of these suggestions a try. Maybe something prescribed could help?
Do you drink coffee? That helps me under usual circumstances. |

I'm like... immune to prune juice. To me, it just tastes nasty and it never lets me take a sh_t. Miralax does nothing for me.
Milk of magnesia helps to a degree, although in extreme cases, you can ask your dr about magnesium citrate. DON'T DO IT WITHOUT ASKING YOUR DOCTOR, THOUGH. It made me sh_t for 3 days straight. I'm not exaggerating. (Maybe it's because I drank the entire bottle... lol.) But I did it because I didn't take a sh_t in 8 days and it's dangerous to go that long. (Thanks, Seroquel...) |

I sure battle with these issues too. Since increasing my Seroguel and Benzo I now struggle to stay regular. What's helped is psyllium husk which the the main water soluble fiber in many of the OTC like Citrucel. I add it to my morning protein shake and it has no sugar or sugar substitutes so it's much healthier. Come is a gel cap form too that you can drink with a glass of water. Keep eating lots of greens and you should be regular in no time.
Good luck with the going! |
