I was just diagnosed as bp2, but I'm not sure. I do have mood swings - one day I am very depressed and suicidal, and another I am happy, efficient, optimistic (sometimes even feel stoned). Am I bipolar or is it just depression and a lifting of depression?

Hello Ouch
I'm not qualified to answer your question, but my husband has recently been diagnosed as BP2, and I will try to describe his experiences to see if they seem familiar to you. He alternates between high energy and a racing mind, and absolute exhaustion. The high energy times, he has not remembered being happy, but more times of anxiety and 'overload'. I've seen times when he's needed absolute tidiness and quiet, and when he worries about everything (money, food, politics...). When he was younger, he had times when he'd enjoy these states and go cycling, sailing etc all in one day - till he collapsed. It's taken 5 months of therapy and a discussion between 3 psychiatrists to reach this diagnosis - obviously not easy. The good news is, after all these months, he's on a med that seems to be working for him. I hope you find the right one for you. |

If you had a professional give the diagnosis...you most likely have the symptoms that would qualify you...
I'm all over the board from rapid cycling, mixed, down, up...I'm up now...like it better then down...T said just be careful not to get to up... If you feel it is depression and coming out of depression a second opinion never hurts...
