Saw my new pdoc today. He upped my lamictal dose to 200, prescribed 40 mg geodon for my mixed episode. It was like 2 hours after i took the geodon with food i felt calm and not irritable. He also switched me from valium to ativan because he said its more activating and valium can make people depressed. I took an ativan and didnt feel the groggy crabby sad feeling of valium. A few hours after my first dose of geodon kicked in, i took a one hour nap and woke up feeling better. Me and my pdoc also talked about our common jewish faith and love of parrots. The pharmacy was right inside the clinic so that was nice too. The pill bottles are neon blue so i will always get my meds from there for now on. I still feel blah but better.

Ha, I thought Ativan was quick and short acting. I usually took Klonopin for all-day relief.

That is wonderful that your medication changes have made such positive differences! For me, Lamictal and Geodon were very side effect friendly for a long time, especially in terms of weight. I was always slim when they were primary meds. I hope they will be for you. I have never taken Valium, but think Ativan is great for what it's meant to do.

I had to respond regarding parrots. I LOVE parrots, too. Maybe my username hints at that? I also just uploaded his picture as my avatar. Though my psychiatrist doesn't have a parrot, his sister has 12 large macaws in her house. Imagine? My psychiatrist said that some of his patients have brought their dogs to his office before, and that I could someday bring my parrot. My little bird boy is still young. I want to be sure he'd be very well behaved before I bring him. Do you currently have a parrot? If so, what kind? Mine is a Hahn's macaw.

Well I had a cockatoo named dolly parton but she lassed away recently at 37. Never bit me once. She was a rescue who had issues with biting. Now i have a blue crowned conure who is around 30, a rescue, super hyper, antagonizes my dog whenever she gets the chance. She calls my dog "coke" for some reason. My dogs name is constance. My blue crownds name is Pippa.

12 macaws!? That's gotta be somewhere around rock-concert volume when they get going. I'd have to invest in a great pair of earplugs if I had that many macaws around.

bewise93, it sure is nice having that birdie live, isn't it? Sorry for your loss of Dolly Parton. Obviously you have a special bond with these feathered friends.

Northchild, I'd think so.

Yes it was sad but shes up in heaven singing "favorite things" from the sound of music. She loved to sing that song.
