My 17yr old son has been on Zyprexa and cipralex for the last 6 months. His pdoc took him off the zyprexa A few days ago so he is taking an AD with no AP. So far he is fine. But if this makes him manic, how long till he starts acting/feeling manic?

I looked it up online and it said it takes 5 days to leave your system.

Good luck, I hope he doesn't go manic. Do you have meds just in case?

When I first started meds, I started off with Lexapro (no AP, no mood stabilizer, nada). It took me somewhere between 1-2 weeks before I became manic on it. I don't remember exactly how long, but the switchover to mania wasn't instantly overnight.
Thanks for this!

I went manic within 3 weeks of cipralex alone. A week on Zoloft alone.
Thanks for this!

I'm the only one who is worried about him being bipolar. His dad and his pdoc don't think he is, and just thinks I'm being paranoid. If he actually goes manic on this AD and is diagnosed BP, I will feel so guilty.

Guilty for what? Being a concerned, good mother? Nope. You don't need to feel that way.

He has a supporting mom and dad and a support team. He has more then most teens with MI. Whether he has BP or not that is not going to change that. If he does have BP he has a mom that understands fully what he's going through and that means a lot.
