Our house is 50 years old and in need of many new things/problems. The biggest problem is the foundation. It needs at least $12K worth of repairs. We already took out a tree that was affecting the house, don't remember if the cracks are new or if they have always been there.
I don't like the kitchen any more and want an updated one, bigger if possible. Jeff needs his bathroom updated. The back yard needs sod and an irrigation system put in. It needs better drainage as it is a big mess when it rains real hard. Hubby wants a big yard, I don't. He wants to feed the birds. We need a new front door, New windows. We have Old wiring (don't think it would pass code, not sure. aluminum instead of copper)and plumbing. The roof is 17 years old, heating/cooling unit 25 years old, water heater is 24 years old. Who knows how old the dishwasher is. Other appliances are at least 20 years old. We only have $5k in savings. I feel the future for the house sounds very expensive to keep. We pay it off in 7 years. It appraises at $180 the realtor says. So we have $120k in equity. WE could get a home equity loan to make repairs and to do the remodel. Which would create immediate extra monthly costs for who knows how long to pay it off. so housing payments go up monthly. We already have a $1250 note because we refinanced the house rolling in my husbands student loans. Other why the house would be paid off by now. I would be will to sell my shares of my roth IRA and pay the %10 penalty so we would have a lower note to pay on for a 15 year mortgage. The neighborhood that we live in is nice middle class, 50 year old homes. In a very good school system. I believe we should not have a hard time selling. But I have not been able to find any houses in our price range. So I will next week get pre approved for a house note, so we can see where we are at.I called a realtor and asked her help. I also contacted a loan officer to talk about getting approved, we meet in a week. I saw my pdoc yesterday and she thinks it all made sense, i see my tdoc on Monday for a 2 hour session. bizi bizi

At this point I'd think buying a newer house would better.

Maybe you should look into getting on love it or list it, on the home network? Or maybe the property brothers buying and selling show?

Burn it to the ground so you can collect the insurance money & buy a mini-mansion. If you get caught, you can always plead insanity.
