My pdoc believes I might have lithium toxicity. He pdoc is all over it. Got my blood tested today, he will have it my the end of the day. First, here are my symptoms

eyes getting blurrier than usual
possibly hallucinations
decreased facial expression
tremors getting worse by the day
Cant always finish a sentence.
Becoming harder to understand the complex problems I've working with for 2 decades;
My shoulder jerks involuntarily
hand tremors (getting progressively worse)
Memory is failing...especially short-term

Those who have had toxicity, were there permant effects?

My lithium level has been toxic at one point. Blurry vision, hand tremors, and a not so great memory. He just slowly decreased the dose like a week at a time I think. I kept getting blood tests to check. Then it got to a safe number and we stopped tweaking with it. The side effects when away and I'm fine now.

I had toxicity 3 times, each one pretty bad. One landed me in the hospital because of hallucinations (but regular hospital because my pdoc was pretty sure it was neurological and it was). I have no problems left; each time once my level went down it was fine.

I hope you get this squared away soon. I'm glad you hear from your doctor later today.

I have never had Lithium toxicity that I know of, but I imagine it isn't good for people's kidneys. I hope your doctor will also keep track of your creatinine level. Though I never had Lithium toxicity that I know of, I did eventually end up with mild kidney damage, so I had to be taken off Lithium.

I’ve been toxic once very briefly. The amount of Lithium I was on was decreased but I stayed on it. I have pre existing kidney issues and they haven’t changed the whole time I’ve been on Lithium (3years).

I was toxic on lithium a couple of times. My hands were shaking so bad I couldn’t write and I couldn’t do my hobby of jewelry making - two of my coping skills. The symptoms went away once the lithium was out of my system. Even without toxicity the side effects are unbearable for me so I went off of it.

I understand that for some the dose of lithium that works is close to toxic levels. Even though it is the “gold standard” of mood stabilizers, I shied away from it for this reason.
Thanks for this!

I forgot to add that the #1 way to prevent toxicity is to keep up the fluids.
And if in doubt, drink more fluids.

When I got toxic I could not stop vomiting. Plus the same symptoms as most others.

I just bought a new pair of glasses a few months ago, and now my vision is blurred. I blame lithium. Has this happened to anyone? Did you every recover?
