are depakine, olanzapine and fluoxetine the right drug combination for bipolar depression? is it safe to take them all together? my sister is already taking depakine and olanzapine, but she's still depressed. i have heard a lot about efficacy of olanzapine/fluoxetine combination for bipolar depression, and depakine was what got her out of mania last summer, so i dont want her to quit it, i'm gonna ask her psychiatrist to add fluoxetine to her drug combo. he has suggested quetiapine and depakine. but i want her to try olanzapine/fluoxetine first, as she is already taking olanzapine,

any recommendation will be appreciated.

I don't suggest anything to my dr. Dr's really don't like that of course explain that she's depressed but save the med suggestions to him/her. Symbyax seems what you're looking for if she has trouble taking meds. However there's a bunch of other meds too. antidepressants don't always play nice with bipolar. It's best to let the dr. decide.

Does your sister want you this involved in her care ?

Sure a medication can be brought up some Pdocs are ok with it and some not so much.

Hope she finds the right combo to help her feel better
