I just started Geodon 20mg and wanted to know how it's treated others.

I've been on geodon since 2010 except for a little time where I tried latuda that didn't work. I take 40 mg in the AM and 240 mg in the PM. Go up slowly on the med. The second time I tried the med in 2008? I had a seizure cause my pdoc rose the dose too high too fast. The FDA limit is 160 mg. You have to eat at least 350 calories when you take it for it to work. Also it'll make you tired probably. As far as weight, it's pretty weight neutral. I've been losing weight on it.

It has brought back my dystonia, so I'm going off it. The worst part of that is the fuucking brain zaps.

Geodon has proven very effective for me, and even the "flattening" effect wasn't too bothersome and a relief from out-of-control mania; however, my pdoc and I have agreed that, for the time being, because of some symptoms of potentially irreversible EPS/dyskinesia, we'll use high-dose Geodon only for acute episodes instead of for ongoing maintenance. I'm taking the smallest possible doses of AP, AD, and mood stabilizer currently with close supervision so that titration can be instituted quickly if necessary.

I currently take Geodon and love it. It brought me out of a terrible depression. I have no weight gain. The only side effect is some sleepiness so I only take 40 mgs in the morning and 120 at night. I hope you do well on it.

I took 160 mg for about 7 years, mostly 80 mg in the morning and 80 mg at night. It was weight friendly. The sleepiness eventually eased for me.

Unfortunately for me, Geodon was not enough to prevent mania, so my psychiatrist had to add a second antipsychotic on top of also Tegretol XR.

The side effects were very minor, even hardly noticeable until I reached year 5.5 when I started getting akathisia with a vengeance. We tried meds to ease the akathisia, but they were problematic. Eventually my psychiatrist decided to take me off Geodon and raise my Seroquel XR. The Geodon took a very long time to get off of because of withdrawal effects. I finally reached 0 mg around New Year's. The akathisia eased when I was at the 60 mg dose.

Do you mean 350 calories AT the time you take it or is that accumulative?

You have to eat at least 350 calories at the time you take it in order for the med to be effective. I have to do the same thing for Latuda.

I was only on it for a few months. Got an EKG and my heart's QT rhythm was prolonged too far. Had to go off that quickly. It sucked because it calmed me down as well as Zyprexa. Apparently Geodon is the worst for that particular side effect. I was switched to Abilify and that didn't work.

I took it for few months.

I felt “ odd”

Eventually I got sick of it and dropped it cold turkey with my Pdoc approval and holy hell I was sick for over a week. Nausea, agitated insomnia would go hot and freezing cold with in mins , brain zappping etc etc .... was hell on earth for me

I recently started taking it. Right now I am at 80 mg., one dosage in the evening. I had it split am and pm, but the sleepy side effects were too much to wait out. I've been on lots of APs, and compared to others I like the fact that this one is weight neutral. So far, the main thing I have noticed is that I needed to cut back on intake of klonopin, never more than 1 mg a day otherwise I have this crazy sleep reaction, and the same goes for alcohol. I no longer can have a social glass of wine.

I am on a high dosage of Geodon. It is the only thing that helps me get a good night sleep (having sleeplessness lately due to another medication). It is weight neutral (losing weight on it) and I don't have any other side effects aside from sleepiness which is gone by the morning. Overall, pleased with it.

I take 80mg twice a day. and have for years.
it is not a great mood stabilizer for me so we added zyprexa...need to increase it I think. 2.5 mg is not enough. I am willing to take the risk of increased side effects.
need to send my pdoc a note.
