I remember back when Valentine's Day was not only celebrated amongst lovers, but it was also celebrated within friendships. It was even more fun that way.

I was looking at the Valentines cards and they still have all types: for lovers, friends, parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts and even some from your pet!

Do you celebrate?
Do you celebrate with friends/Family?

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY, FRIENDS!

My DH is working on Valentines' Day. Yesterday, he took me shopping for clothes and some very nice jewelry. We then went out to dinner.

Today, I am taking my mother to lunch.

How are you celebrating?

Valentine's is the day of my public wedding anniversary (30 years ago). When my husband got an assignment from the base we were both stationed he asked me to marry and wanted to be married nearly immediately. My mom wanted it done right. The fact that we needed to be married in less than a month was giving her heart attacks so we settled on Valentine's Day but then were secretly married within a week. Everyone on base knew we were married but we kept it secret from everyone else. My sister (my best woman) and bridesmaids did not know. When we visited his family for the Christmas Holidays, they did not know. I was following my husband's wishes about keeping secrets from my friends and family in a way I have unquestionally done for nearly my entire marriage. It was a secret that felt really intense to hold onto because I was stationed in a place where I had friends outside of work.

This morning when I got up, I found a lovely chocolate cake next to the coffee pot.

The kids make cards and candy for their classes. My hubby and I don't normally do anything since it's almost impossible to get a babysitter on valentines. But its fun for the kids, so that makes me happy.

For you guys who have been together with your "old lady" for more than a decade, it's "Put Down The Toilet Seat When You're Done Day." If ya don't buy flowers, at least be considerate.

WHAT???. That’s a doozy. Happy anniversary?
I’m just saying, knowing more about you, that’s a strange start I’m sure we can talk about more via PM. Hugs

No friends to celebrate with
My mom and dad celebrate by themselves by going out to dinner and hanging out all day.
My sister is in college and has a boyfriend
I'm single and don't have kids, but maybe that'll change, as I'm still in my 20s

Here's a free Valentine for you all:

To a Valentine who's a bit crazy,
I'd buy you a card but I'm lazy.
When you crash or fly high
I'm a a very nice guy
Like the chauffeur in "Driving Miss Daisy."

My relationship with my wife is nothing like I would like it to be. Valentine's Day is a depressing reminder of that.

We went out to dinner last night at a fondue restaurant. We couldn't get a reservation tonight. A good thing too, since it's supposed to be packed.

My husband bought flowers today and I wrote a poem for him. He's making a game hem for dinner. It's probably good we're not going out because we both don't feel really well. We're at the point where we've bought all the toys and jewelry, so we want to spend time with each other. And eat

I don't get Valentine's Day. It's just a Hallmark holiday. I don't really like to celebrate it.

That said, I do buy my son chocolates because he cares about the holiday.

Hubby got fried taters an eggs for dinner I opened a soda lol

Loving and being kind should be a daily thing not once a year

My sentiments exactly. I've always thought it strange that there was only one day a year to celebrate your partner. If I said I was madly in love every day, I'd be fibbing, but as long as the joyous days outnumber the bad, it's all good.

I feel guilty. DH tried so hard to make Valentines Day special. I put up a good front, but felt so very blah inside. It has nothing to do with him. It's the apathy of depression.

Got flowers for my wife (live Callow Lilies that she can plant in the spring), wrote her a love letter, and got three pounds of strawberries along with hot fudge for dipping (for the whole family). My daughters made cards for us. It was good.
