As many of you know I have been struggling with dystonia for awhile now. I started taking Benadryl yesterday and my dystonia symptoms are almost gone. A few aches and pains here and there but a million times better than before. I am so thankful, you have no idea.

For those of you who take Benadryl for relief, does it end up pooping out on you?

Benedryl only lasts about 4-6 hrs. It's one of the shorter acting antihistamines.
Thanks for this!

You can build tolerance to benadryl if you take it every day. I used to take it as an add on to help me sleep. I started at 50mg and ended up at 100mg it took some time though.

I am glad you've tried Benadryl (diphenhydramine). I've mentioned it a few times, as working for me. I haven't had it "Poop out," but then I tend to get away from drugs causing me dystonia, if I can.

I know you have been in a unique situation and my heart goes out.

I am SO VERY HAPPY FOR YOU!!!

I don't know if this is temporary, but the Benadyl hasn't been working for the last 5 hours. Just me and my pain.

I am so sorry to hear that. Damn. I had that with Cymbalta. Helped my chronic pain for 3 days. I was so grateful. Then the pain came back and never went away again.

As a sleep aid, I like that; if I sleep more than 6 hours there is no morning fog (I am always a little foggy, but some night meds make the morning fog worse).

I haven't been using it nightly long enough to know about a tolerance. I have used it off and on (often implicitly, in PM headache medicine) for several years.

I skipped my morning dose of Geodon and cleaned the entire house, had a shower, did laundry and more. It felt so good to not have the pain. So I'm gonna try and take my full dose at supper time instead of splitting up my dose. We'll see if that's enough to keep me sane. Then I can take my night meds and sleep through the pain. It's worth a try anyway.

So, skipping my morning dose was a bad idea. I'm starting to wig out, so had to take my dose. This fuucking sucks.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I didn't know what dystonia was until I looked it up. It seems very painful. I hope you feel better soon. I'm depressed too...no fun.

I found that when I tried to decrease geodon I'd get depressed. Not fun. I hope you can figure something out.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I have some chronic pain but it is nothing like you are describing. I hope you can brainstorm with your pdoc and find some way out of this awful dilemma.
