I’m listening to the Bipolar Survival Guide on YouTube and heard that most of us have multiple Dx.

It makes me wonder if they should classify bipolar types with what rides with it in order to develop treatment plans accordingly.

I have bipolar disorder (1 or 2, dep on the pdoc you ask)
Anxiety from Complex PTSD (per therapist)

What are all your Dx?

I just have bipolar 1, although I think I should also have an anxiety dx. My pdoc doesn't believe in putting a bunch of diagnoses behind a person's name, however, and he thinks my anxiety is part of my BP.

The most compelling assessment i ever got said i had bipolar with traits of personality disorders. A different doctor said i just had chronic PTSD. The thing that impairs me the most is the bipolar so i focus on that. Good thread! I'll look forward to everyone's answers!

I would say that bipolar type 1 is my only diagnosis right now. It is the only one my psychiatrist has for me. I used to also have an alcohol dependence dx, but that was then downgraded to alcohol abuse, and then removed altogether. I am not an alcoholic and haven't abused alcohol in several years. I drink about 1/2 to 1 drink max, when I have anything, and desire no more.

One neurologist diagnosed me with Simple Partial seizures (a type of epilepsy), but an epileptologist said the dx was not definitive. I haven't had any of those suspected seizure symptoms in years. Either I never or currently don't have that or my anticonvulsant moodstabilizer Tegretol XR has done a stellar job keeping them away. If the latter, Tegretol XR has not completely kept my bipolar type 1 at Bay these years, though I know it's been helpful.

Once during a hospitalization, they also gave me a generalized anxiety disorder dx, but that disappeared and my anxiety has only since been an occasional issue. Other issues we're temporary, too. Only my bipolar type 1 lives on. Bipolar has surely been with me since 15 years old. It will not go away, even if in remission. I'll need medications for the rest of my life, unless a cure is found. Doubtfully in my lifetime!

Bipolar mixed states, Asberger's, Derealization disorder. I've had every dx in the book. Going to see specialist at Johns Hopkins soon so maybe he'll confirm some of these, who knows.

All of mine are in my signature. Basically bipolar 1, borderline and a load of anxiety. I emotionally bounce around like a ping pong ball. But hey, keeps life interesting.

Bipolar 1 with psychotic features or possibly schizoaffective bipolar type

GAD

Social Anxiety Disorder (though I dont know about this one- I just lump it in with GAD- dont need 2 anxiety disorders imo)

ADHD combined type. (Though I lean more inattentive)

No idea anymore, but this is what's on paper:

BP 1 w/o psychotic features, but I get voices and visions, which I now know are fake, so I think the Dx is out of date. Should probably be BP 1 with psychotic features.

ADHD

GAD

OCD

BP, not sure which one, but I am going to ask the new pdoc what the old one put down in her files next time I see him because I am curious
Anxiety/panic disorder
PTSD
Eating disorder (anorexia, purging type via extreme overexercise); that one I’d like to say is in a sort of remission...I recovered from the really bad case around 2002, 2003, with a brief relapse in 2012. I wish it would fully go away but medical issues have made me lose weight lately as has hypomania, and the ED thoughts get more intrusive the lower the number on the scale, once fitted clothes fitting loosely, so I am maybe battling another round with it 🙁

I was diagnosed with bipolar 2 several decades ago. Over the past 5 years the dx bounces between bipolar 1 and bipolar 2. I sometimes get severe anxiety, which has been diagnosed as a "dysphoric mania."

I have very mild OCD.

I have also been diagnosed with PTSD.

BP 1, but my pdoc documents me mildly depressed.
Which is not true.
I also have social anxiety
I have labeled myself with personality disorders but really it all falls under BP1.
I also struggle with addictions.

I am Bipolar Type 1 and I am down to just two medications right now.

150mg Seroquel
.05 Kionopin

It's amazing you know, I think throughout all my Bipolar history I have been DRUGGED UP SO MUCH by so many damn doctors and hospitalizations, that I am FINALLY at a good place where I can "exhale and rejoice" that I am down to just two. And they aren't even that heavy in milligrams either!

Even MORE amazing is when my current pdoc did my evaluation and he was asking me questions about my history. He simply asked, "Can you list all the medications you have ever been on?" I laughed and said, "ALL OF THEM." I wasn't even joking either, because I made him write that down in his report.

What a journey it has been, truly!!

Sometimes I find it strange that some people count their diagnoses like so many "merit badges." I take meds to control symptoms, not labels. Sorry if that sounds snotty (& it most likely does), but I'm just answering honestly. It probably helps some people to have labels to hang their hats on.

I will admit wholeheartedly that I wear my Bipolar Disorder like a merit badge. After battling this illness the way I have had, and ALL THE MISERY I went through to get to this peaceful place finally, I can honestly say, yeah, I wear it, in fact I OWN IT!!

It's not snooty at all, you are completely entitled to your opinion.

I don’t appreciate the first line you posted. “Strange?” “Merit badges??”

You could have made your post without the first line.

Why do you feel like you have to come in here and say that?

How is that supportive?

Bipolar 1 is primary for me, and the criteria fits me very well. My pdoc said my anxiety is secondary to BP and often linked with the Bipolar episodes, so it's debatable whether I carry a diagnosis of an anxiety disorder, or if it is just a feature of agitated mania or depression while in episodes. It depends on who you ask (I've had a few different pdocs/therapists/Psychologists), but all I know, I am generally an anxious person (a worrier), with symptoms similar to GAD in addition to the BP Type 1. I used to wonder if I also have Borderline Personality based on certain symptoms, but pdocs and therapists do not believe so. I no longer believe it either.

That is AWESOME! I would love to be there! I have been so drugged up as well, especially when I had to use the low-income state-run county system. I think they had me on 12 psych meds at once! I am convince having to be with them for over 5 years (and on the wrong meds, treated for depression, not bipolar) has re-wired and messed up my brain.
