Bipolar plays tricks with your head. I am in relative remission and I keep asking myself if I ever had bipolar in the first place. I know enough that If I stop taking my medications the symptoms will come back. Bipolar sure is a funny disease.

I don’t know the answer but I know someone who has long periods of stability including a 7yr break in between episodes.
That at least gives me hope that one day it might be possible to manage my bipolar and have a life.

I was fine for 9 years, thought i was cured. Was off meds for 3 years, working fulltime, had a second job part time, living in an apartment. People started saying i wasn't right, than i started getting worse, eventually full on break. So needless to say i know now i am not cured but i can seem cured through medication. But now i know i can break again and my breaks last a year.

It sure is. I've been so stable over the past couple of years that I can't help wondering if I really have bipolar 1 or if my providers are just making a bigger deal of it than it really is. I've been experimenting with my meds recently because I am in a hypomanic phase and nothing terrible has happened, althoug I know I can't go off them entirely. I don't have the balls to try that---the withdrawal would be awful. Besides, I've been in a psych ward and there's always the chance of ending up in there again. So I've gone back to taking my pills as prescribed. The hypo should resolve on its own.

As I can’t take “medications” or only a couple (which don’t really help) I don’t know the answer. I would like to think there could be a cure, or if not, a better quality of life.
