I got all aggravated with my hair last week and went at with scissors. My hair was all the way down to my butt so I can afford to loose some. I leaned over a candle by accident and set on fire. That’s what set me off. I’m on the fence about thinking this was rather impulsive. I hacked a good 8 inches of it off. I like it though. I gave myself sort of an asymmetric shag. Now it’s about mid back length. No one has said a word about it. probably thinking “ oh Lordy she’s been using the week whacker again.”

It's helpful you'd had so much hair to begin with.
Lots of people give themselves haircuts and I don't know how they do it.

I cut my H's hair, but not my own.

I'll bet your hair looks fine!

I used to cut my own hair. I was always pretty pleased with it. Somewhere along the line, I lost the knack. I've shaved my head a few times and that felt fabulous.

I've wanted to shave my head before; yet, didn't do it.

I used to cut my hair when I was manic. It usually happened in the spring or summertime. Now my son-in-law does my hair and he swears he'll shave my head if I so much as pick up the scissors, so I leave it alone. It helps that I don't get manic anymore.

Oh I can chime in on this lol

I have had major ups and downs as my hair goes... I cut my own for years and did fine until I decided to go get it cut and I left with a pixie cut .... it wasn’t a good look at all. Then I did purple for a while hahaha

Now? I get mine cut by a hair stylist friend.

Before I get something major change I make myself wait at least a week.

I’m glad you didn’t lose anymore Hair.. accidentally catching it on fire is scary. I’m sure losing some length probably feels good tho.

Shazerac, your post made me smile

I’ve had an interesting relationship with my hairdressers. I don’t remember telling them about my manic episodes or that they are not to colour my head bright blue.
But without fail every time I’m manic I go in and ask for my blond hair to be made blue and they talk me out of it.

I have a pixie cut and again when my mood is up I ‘trim’ all the bits that bother me.

Oh too funny. Never thought of telling my hairdresser about my manic episodes. She never batted an eye when I made weird requests and did what i asked her to do. Now that I do my own hair it’s worse because I can get pretty creative. I use hair chalk and add streaks of color in my hair when there is an occasion and I have an “excuse.” Mardi Gras! Halloween, etc.

I haven't tried cutting my own hair. My daughter did when she was four. That was a fun trip to the hair salon.

I'd grow my hair out but it's too dry and thick. The last time I did it my hair frizzed to a big fuzzball.

Ha ha ha kids are so funny. My daughter cut her own hair once I was able to fix it at home. Another time she the got ahold of my razor and shaved middle out of both of her eyebrows. Not the whole eyebrow just the middle this might have been an early sign that she bipolar which she is. She won the genetic lottery. It was interesting trying to explain that to her school.
