I rearranged my day to drive for 1.5 hours into the city with my husband to see my doctor, despite feeling horrible due to meds not being right.

I told her I had akasthesia and trouble breathing from Geodon and she showed no compassion. She said just to stay at the lower dose that hasn't caused it yet. Instead of coming up with something new she told me to stop the Doxepin and switch back to Remeron since that was helping my depression more in the past (but was stopped due to weight gain) and since I asked about Lamictal, she's starting me on it next week and it will eventually replace the Remeron. I also told her that I'm now feeling terrible from the Adderall which was prescribed for extreme fatigue. She suggested nothing new and really didn't seem to care about how poorly I was doing. She said, "You don't look good." a couple of times, which just made me feel worse. (This was all in front of a medical student). Honestly, I feel like ***** due to meds not being right but I don't look nearly as bad as I feel so I don't know why she was saying that. She's helped me in the past but I feel very dissatisfied and am looking for a new doctor. Ugh!

Sorry to hear about your negative experience today. I don't blame you for wanting to see a new doctor.

We, as patients, have the right to hire and fire doctors at our own will. I have "fired" one of my therapists because he was making random sexual comments when I said nothing sexual at all or even IMPLIED anything sexual. Some people are just not cut out to be doctors or therapists, and that's the sad truth. Even worse, having "many years of experience" is not a good indicator of how talented (or not so talented) a doctor is. I mean, 20 years of experience... Yeah, 20 years of GOOD experience, or 20 years of BAD experience?

I could go on and on, but any doctor who treats you like the way your dr has treated you today deserves to be fired by you. You are your own best advocate. Do what's right for you and what will make you feel better/comfortable. You need someone who will listen to your concerns and who will do whatever they can (ethically) to help you feel better. Sometimes compromises have to be made and we don't always get 100% of what we want, but not all compromises have to be bad ones.
