I hate haldol. It seems to control my psychosis but I hate the dystonia and blurry Vision!
Is it worth it two ask my dr to switch me to something else or should i just deal with it??? I already take cogentjn for side effects. And how do I ask?

No, I don't think you should deal with dystonia and blurry vision. Blurry vision is dangerous because you can get in a car accident if you drive, or you could fall down a set of stairs. And dystonia is just painful sh_t that nobody should have to put up with.
If I were in your shoes, I would just tell my pdoc exactly what you said here -- haldol controls psychosis, but causes unbearable side effects. Then say you want to look into a different option because you want to be physically safe since blurry vision is risky. |

Please advocate for yourself. If the side effects are intolerable insist on a med switch. Personally I rather be dragged behind a truck than suffer distonia. It’s horrible! I got it the first 3 days I tried geodon. Never taking that sh@t again. Blurry vision is downright dangerous.

Haldol is one of the -roughest- tranquilizers/antipsychotics out there. I seem to recall reading...it even has a somewhat toxic metabolite, so its most definitely -not- good for you, by any stretch of the imagination.
Sorry. I don't mean to scare you or whatever, just...there are so many other options out there, this is straight up ridiculous. If you need an older tranquilizer, perphenazine is cheap, generic, and far easier to tolerate (Just keep an eye on the dose). There's also loxapine...amoxapine if you need an antidepressant plus tranquilizer (and you're not too high risk for a tca)...on and on it goes. I'm on Abilify, personally. Shrinks are a tricksy bunch. When I had lingering agitation, my former shrink wanted to prescribe Haldol to take on top of the Abilify. I had to say that I'm not a big fan of vitamin H, plus I don't want to be on 2 tranquilizers at the same time, so I ended up on an anti-seizure drug. Not ideal, but...beats tardive dyskinesia, drug-induced depression, etc. OK. Please try to speak up and talk to the shrink about other, less toxic, easier to tolerate options. :-) |
