Physical Condition affecting mental health

I am having kidney issues and its still undiagnosed but I will be seeing another specialist Thursday. The first symptoms started when my lithium dose was raised from 1200 to 1500 6 months ago during a manic episode even though my healthy blood level is still high with 1200. So I was taken off lithium. I have some sort of kidney disease and its causing me to get overheated, sweat, and have pain randomly in various parts of my body. I started also having some confusion, not major, but forgetting what I was doing, forgetting where my wallet was at a gas station even though it was right in my pocket. My psychiatrist raised my seroquel dose and added klonipin which I think was a bad idea considering I'm already on ativan and once this is treated I will be on two benzos. Anyways, I cant figure out what's psychological or physical or both. I'm not going to the hospital again because I hate the ER and theyre very rude and dont do anything to help. The doctor suspects it was the lithium. My head feels foggy and with certain kidney diseases toxins go to your brain and cause mental side effects. It's so hard because I can't think straight, not hungry, get random weird anxious moments. All i keep thinking is its cancer and the thought wont get out of my head. Lithium caused more problems with my mental health than ever helped. Im on 400mg of lamictal now and lamictal actually works. I am confused about my religion for some reason. Don't know if I want to be budhist or Christian and dont know if its a mental health thing or a part of the kidney stuff. This is the worst feeling ever, not knowing whats wrong with you.

Hey. I hope they figure out what exactly is going on. I have kidney failure (not from meds but from genetics) and I think yes your brain can be affected. My memory lately is crap and I feel like I’m in a brain fog. I even had difficulty doing simple math the other day. Then I think maybe it is all just from the stress of dealing with a health issue. Idk.

Hello, I read your reply on the above post about kidney issues, just wish to ask how you're coping with your kidney failure and what form of medication and therapy are you on? have you considered and transplant?

Yes physical illnesses can cause mental issues. That's why the physical issues should be treated first.
