Had a mental break Tuesday night, crying, shaking, throwing up... Totally snapped. Went to my dr Wednesday a.m. and she gave me Vistaril 25mg BID, and 25mg as needed during the day. Her orders for that day were to take 2 upon picking them up.

I did so and started feeling better in less than an hour, sat down on the couch to relax and fell asleep... Slept for 5 hours. Got up and ate, watched tv etc. Time to take evening meds (including another 25mg). Slept for another 8 hrs. Mind you I hadnt been sleeping much, usually 1-2 hrs at a time at night for 5 hrs.

With all the stress at work and life stressors, I was bound to break. I know this, I know me, but I had been trying to brush things off and 'roll with it'. Apparently, I did not accomplish that, just made my husband freak.. And I had cleaning up to do after throwing up on myself and falling asleep in the bath tub Tuesday night.

Dr said Vistaril causes drowsiness (i know all this bc we give it out like candy at the jail), but sleeping all day and evening? Maybe I was so worn out from my mind racing and not sleeping enough?

Anyone else have thoughts on this? Your experiences?

I was actually just taking Vistaril for an allergic reaction to a wasp bite (its primary use is as an antihistamine). 25mg made me very chill and maybe a little tired but I could see how 50mg would knock me out, lol. I thought it worked great for anxiety and my wasp bite. 2 for the price of 1, lol.

Lol Glad it helped your sting!
I have taken it before for systemic itching... No rash, nothing specific is the cause... I just have sensitive skin that crawls. Claritin BID and benadryl as needed usually tame the beast though.

I took vistaril 25mg this morning as directed and ended up going back to bed (dr directed me off work until tomorrow to gauge how the vistaril will effect me). Back up and moving around, had a few stressful things come up (that normally would get pushed aside) and could feel my heart pounding in my throat and wanted to throw up.. So took a vistaril since she said I may not always need the dose in the middle of the day, just take as needed. Felt better after probably 30 minutes and continued on about my day. No more nausea or "freaked out" feelings!

Thinking I may be groggy on it, but I dont get sleepy until I sit down to 'relax'. Took my evening dose an hour ago and pretty good.

It worked for me for a few days. for sleep. It can help with nausea but it gave me bad diarhea, so I had to stop it. It is related to benadryl.

It made me very tired, too. I took it just for anxiety I was having with depression at the time. I had to stop it because it was just too tiring.

I took it off anxiety for a while, and also to help me sleep. I haven't used it lately because I switched mood stabilizers and now I can fall asleep without it.
