I'm so stressed/depressed I almost took myself to the ER yesterday, but I knew I had a pdoc appointment today so I held on and went to it. I told her everything and she acted like she didn't care, no suggested med changes, nothing! She says I need DBT (thinking I have Borderline?) I really don't know what to do now. I need immediate help and I didn't get it.

Go to the ER if you need immediate help. I'm sorry she was so dismissive. Is there a way you can get into therapy? So that you have someone you see in between pdoc appointments.

Hi birdcrazy. I'm sorry you weren't properly heard by your psychiatrist during such an extremely stressful time. If you still feel extremely unwell, do go to the ER. As for DBT, did your psychiatrist say you had Borderline Personality Disorder? DBT is often suggested for people with bipolar disorder, and even other disorders, as well. I guess it would have been useful to know why your psychiatrist thought DBT was the best therapy for you. If you don't currently have a therapist, perhaps therapy would be good in addition to proper psych medication care. I, personally, prefer CBT, but I know of many people with bipolar disorder that sing praises of DBT.

When you say your psychiatrist "dismissed you". Do you mean that you have been terminated from her care? Or that she just dismissed your concerns. Either way, that is terrible of her. Hugs

Dismissed as in I felt she didn't hear my concerns. Right now I'm in the middle of and argument on FB messenger with a realitive, I try to reach out to people and tell them what's going on and i don't get listened to at all and they act like I shouldn't be depressed.

I am so sorry. Yes, definitely go to the ER if you are still feeling the same as yesterday. Maybe try to find a new pdoc too though I know they tend to have long waiting lists. It is not good if you get the feeling your pdoc doesn’t understand or care about what you are trying to convey to her.

I can't go to a different doctor with my Medicaid. I don't have the gas to go to the ER but it would be rediculous to call 911 and they say it's not am emergency.

What may help is if you call up to your psychiatrist office and ask to speak to the manager. Explain in “detail” what happen. Then request a new psychiatrist in the same office. I have done this. I had a psychiatrist that got religious on me and I changed immediately.

Any chance you can call you current pdoc and tell her you'd felt misunderstood yesterday? Sometimes, pdocs miss the urgency, especially if we are not really good at fully expressing the urgency. What would you like her to do for you? Can you tell her what you need?

If you are unable to get anywhere with her, please do not hesitate to contact emergency services. I doubt they will turn you down if you ask for help.

Please take good care of yourself and keep us updated?

I am very sorry this is the case!

I do not think my family understands depression, either.

Maybe get in touch with people who might understand and may be helpful?

Does anyone come to mind?

Please be safe.
Keep us updated?

We are thinking about making a radical move and staying with another relative for now. Just can't stand it here no longer.

I agree that it's possible your needs didn't come across the way you would've hoped. There have been times I've been at my worst and needed the hospital but didn't express this to my pdoc. Sometimes I unintentionally downplay or leave out symptoms. Other times I'm too embarrassed to tell the pdoc the full truth, afraid of what he would think (even though I know that's impractical). Doctors can only help the way we need when they know just how bad it is.
