I should have asked this from my PDoc, but I was too confused at that time to ask it then. I would have to wait till next month to see her again to ask this.

As far as I knew, I was having Anxiety, Depression and OCD, with Insomnia and GI problems as a result. I was on 30mg Lexapro and 1.5mg Risperidone.

This time when I was seeing her, I had several problems. I has missed an appointment and seen her after one and half month instead a month, because I have run out of money to make an appointment, because I have spent too much, because I was feeling so much empty inside. I had a relapse of my GI symptoms cascade. I have been feeling a disgust towards womankind that I was feeling an anger shortly after I feel attracted to seeing a female. I know that sounds ridiculous.

This time I was given Seroquel as a Mood Stabilizer. She said that I need a mood stabilizer, but nothing more on that. I'm now on the target dose of 200mg.

Except some contamination anxiety, my intrusive thoughts and repetitive actions are all very well under control. I can very well tolerate my emotions and do not feel that hurt inside. My mind is clearer. But there is this problem of running in dreams.

Is it that I need a mood stabilizer means I have bipolar, or are mood stabilizers given for major depression as well. I'm not sure about this. Someone please explain.

There's depression, severe anxiety, borderline... all kinds of causes.
I was prescribed it originally, for all of the above, but it wasn't the best ap for me. I'm now on Aripirazole.

Mood stabilizers may be used for a variety of concerns/issues. For clarification on why your pdoc has prescribed a mood stabilizer for you, please do ask your provider/pdoc. We cannot possibly know the answer. Nor can we diagnose.

As far as I know, seroquel is not normally referred to as a mood stabilizer. It is an antipsychotic. It can help also with sleep for many people.

If it is working knock on wood and jump for joy. It's just one of many tools in the Pdocs handbag, they perscibe on symptoms, so she decided your symptoms needed seriquel, apparently she was right.

I'm not a Pdoc but I do know in a lot of my Seroquel research that it can be used off label for depression and anxiety. I do know in my case Seroquel is the answer to my horrible depression. It also helpful to sleep. I hope it works for you.

Seroquel prescribed for bipolar depression is not off-label; it's FDA approved. Thus, since it works on mania too, it functions as a mood stabilizer. Personally I think there are better drugs for bipolar depression than Seroquel.
