I'm not very open about my BP. I'm taking a philosophy course at a community college though, and I just started ECT. I know I should tell my professor that the side effects might keep me from doing as best as I can, but how do I have that discussion? How much do I disclose? How do I word that?
My fear is not being able to attend classes and failing and wasting money. I think if I get student services in on it they'll refund me for the course if I do fail or do not complete the course.

My nephew has ADD and was able to get extra time
for tests and other accommodations arranged by contacting his college's disability services department (I think that's what it was called). Perhaps they could be of help or give you some advice on this matter.

Like Bird Dancer said above, if you want official protection, you need to go through the school’s office of disabilities.

I'm with the others. Go through the disabilities office. It'll require official communication from your doc, of course, so notify them when you next see them.

I can talk to disability services tomorrow after class. So I shouldn't talk directly to my professor?

If you really don't think you can do your best, why take the class? You will still be required to do all the same work as everyone else in the class although maybe you will get extra time. I would see how the ect effects you first and then make a judgement on whether or not you could handle it.

Most colleges are not in the habit of refunding if you fail no matter the reason.

I think talking with your professor, too, is a good idea. I would just present the situation, diagnosis and treatment, but also express how much you look forward to completing the class.

By the way, you should look up the novel by Jostein Gaarder titled _Sophie's World_.

I already have been in the class for a few weeks now, I didn't realize how quickly the ECT treatments would start. I was thinking maybe not get an F for the day for participation in case I can't make it into class because of side effects. I heard I could also get a refund if I fail the course due to medical reasons too, which would be nice.
