Hello all, I'm back on Lithium after being off for two years. I had foolishly convinced myself that nothing was wrong (yet again), but after a recent meltdown in an airport, I'm agreeing to be medicated again. I started Lithium two days ago, and today I have this really awful headache. It doesn't feel like a migraine. It's located in a different area if that makes sense. I don't remember if this is a side effect, and my doctor didn't go over anything since it's not really a new med. I'm only taking 300mg at bed time right now for 7 days, then going up to 600mg. I also have very bad anxiety, so I don't want to blow this out of proportion and call my doctor. I just wanted to know if this was a normal side effect, or if I should call. Thank you!

If the headache started today, then maybe you could take some time to monitor it for a few days -- at least that's what I would do unless it's crippling, because maybe it's a coincidence. If it's crippling, though, then you can call your doctor. There's nothing wrong with asking for advice. Or if you're too scared to do that, you can call your pharmacist. They'll know if it's a side effect or not. They legally have to know everything about a medication they fill.

It can be a side effect of lithium poisoning but you are on a small dose so I doubt that is the issue. Ask your pharmacist.

Did your Pdoc remind you that you MUST increase your fluid intake?!

Could easily be the cause of your headache.

Feel better

She didn't, and that was totally it! I called the pharmacist, and that was literally the first thing she said. I feel so much better after drinking tons of water. Thanks everyone for responses!
