My mom told me there are many people who would trade places with me, and she's right. So today I began practicing gratitude rather than being frustrated or sad about my life, I'm appreciating the good things in my life.

I have a comfortable and warm bed to sleep in. My car is in good shape and runs, and i have no car payment. I have a supportive family. I have good insurance. I have hair. I have a home that's nice and affordable. I found lots of things to be grateful for. I'm going to do it daily each morning. There was lots more but that's a gist. I recommend it. Made me feel better.

Every time I try to write a gratitude list I end up writing pros and cons. Then I end up more depressed than when I started. It's a great idea for those that can do it though.

Thanks for this thread! It's a great reminder to count our blessings!

Saw my PCP today and we were discussing chronic pain and what it can do to morale. He'd then reminded me of how fortunate I am to not have any organ failing. He'd said he has patients my age with organ failure.

So, he'd made a few points which helped me to put things in perspective and helped me to count my blessings!

Again, thanks for this thread! we all can benefit from keeping gratitude in mind!

I like ~Christina's idea re: Putting each "gratitude" in a container and pulling one out each day or however often is most helpful!

It's cold outside but my bed was warm and comfortable and we own our own house free and clear so I can look forward to many more mornings like this!

I am healthy enough to work and take care of my house (though me house has been a bit neglected because I have been working so much).

I am a survivor. I survived my attempt and so many jobs, unemployment sometimes, and managed to stay married for more than 30 years. Our 31st anniversary is coming up soon and I am feeling good about my marriage right now. When I met him 31.5 years ago--I had no idea how much he would change my life. I like his jokes, insights and we like doing many of the same things. I've learned to take more time outs from him when we get aggravated with each other. On the things we don't agree about, I've learned to preserve those things in a part of my heart and try to continue to be me rather than what he wants me to be. Though there are some things I do for him just to make him happy--you do have to make compromises to keep relationships going.

You can be happy if you can find things about your life that you are grateful for.

It's a lovely snowy day today! Beautiful!
The heavy snow has thousands here without power.
I am grateful we have power and we are warm!

The snow piled upon the tree branches is beautiful!

I have been blogging about what I am grateful for every day since February 12, 2013. It has been life changing for me. I can easily keep my mood upbeat and focus on solutions and not on what I lack. By focusing on what I can do, my needs are getting met easier.

Good for you on choosing what you are grateful for daily!

I haven't done this yet, but I've read about it in a book and it just felt like a no-brainer to me. I'm trying to get my act together and find a place for all the exercises that the book illustrates (it's called "Getting Back to Happy" and it's written by Marc and Angel Chernoff) but the very thought of listing my personal reasons for being grateful already made me feel better. I will definitely put those thoughts to paper, maybe in my journal.

Very grateful again today!
More snow. Approx. 30,000 w/o power and will not have power until Sat. night or Sunday! Shelters have been opened up in school gyms, etc.

We are so lucky to have power and to be able to stay in our own home!
