Usually the posts on NextDoor are about missing or lost animals, stolen packages at this time of year, recommendations for handymen, housekeepers, etc. Today, I opened it, and the first post was titled gofundme. I was thinking some family needed help with the upcoming holidays, had a bad story or were financially in crisis, so I opened the gofundme page to read about the story.

The intent of the post is to help a family. It's the family of the high student student in our town who committed sui earlier this school year. They talked about it on NextDoor at the time too, and now again. It's a tragic story and does bring attention to the lack of good resources to turn to for mental health issues, especially teenagers; I am sure people are setting out to help the family with good intentions, but bringing it up again, talking about the sui really triggered me. I wouldn't have thought so. I have been suicidal in the past, but not now, except passively (not caring if I die naturally in my sleep, no plans or anything)

Maybe it's the time of year too. This is a tough time for me.

I am also tired of all the GoFundMe nonsense. I’m skeptical of them now. I personally know someone who has a very good income and started one for her adult son who is perfectly capable of working and paying his own bills and she’s tired of supporting him.

Well, in this case it did happen (got news publicity), but if the family needs the money, I don't know. I am sure it will be a difficult Christmas for them.

But yeah, you are also right. I was going to read it to see if it was a ridiculous gofundme request. I should have stopped reading when I realized it was the girl who committed sui, but her last name is a very common one in this area, so I had no idea.

I'm sorry. It was really triggering when my neighbor's son committed sui (I didn't know him). I would bring it up to your T. I don't know what I would have done without her.

That's a good idea. Like I said, NextDoor is usually not very controversial, you don't really see much talk of sui or mental health there, so it threw me a bit.
