My pdoc appointment was supposed to be today at 11:40am. I got a reminder exactly one week before today. That sent me into extra/more than usual anxiety and panic levels. And last night I could hardy sleep at all because I was so nervous. And I got up way early because I couldn’t try anymore.
I had been waiting 6 weeks to see my doctor again. And that was supposed to be today. But I got a call at 10am from her secretary saying something came up and she had to cancel. And that I could come in Thursday or next week. It just made me extra upset because I’ve been waiting so long and I finally was going to speak up for myself and hopefully get change. And I’ve only been seeing her for a few months and she’s canceled at lesst 4 times. She’s only in office 3 days a week which makes it HARDER. I know she has a life and things to do but it’s difficult for me too. I can’t go Thursday. I need at least a weeks notice because my mom has to take off work to take me. So now my appointment is next week. And I’m still in anxious panic mode. Plus the fact that I cried for like an hour this morning over it. All of these days are going to go by so slow

Have you considered searching for a different psychiatrist? It sounds like your current one is fairly new, but she's clearly unreliable. I know that psychiatrist and therapist searches are stressful and frustrating, though. |

I literally just got in to see this psychiatrist. I went without meds for months. It was hard enough to even find her and I was glad I finally found someone. I like her but I’m not sure yet. Last appointment I was scheduled and I got there and my name wasn’t even down to see her so I had to wait for an opening while sitting there and had like a 5 minute appointment. It didn’t feel like she was listening to me but she may have just been busy. I don’t want to look for another new one because they are all either too far away or have horrible reviews. I have enough meds to last me until tomorrow night. Then I don’t know what to do. I can’t get more. And even if I could I would just pay for those to then have my meds changed and pay for the new ones

Have you tried calling your pharmacist to see if they'd give you an interim supply of perhaps 7 days worth? Or do you have a GP who could submit an interim supply request to your pharmacy? You could explain the situation to the GP. The "interim supply" idea is not something I'm making up. I've gotten interim supplies on a handful of occasions.
Skipping medications is not a reasonable option for most of us. It's absolutely not your fault if you counted on seeing her today. Your psychiatrist is negligent if you run out because of her unexpected situation. Perhaps her nurse or secretary could assist. They definitely can't if they don't know your med supply situation. I could not function well even missing my medications for 24 hours. Doctors and pharmacists should know this. Believe me when I write that I would find a way to avoid missing medications for more than a dose or two. Last edited by Anonymous46341; Dec 03, 2018 at 03:10 PM. |

I know you hate and shutter anytime you have to make a phone call but you HAVE to make sure you can get a weeks worth of meds, since your Pdoc cancelled there will be no problem giving you enough to last.
Just pick up the phone tomorrow and dial ... hello I’m X and since my appt was changed I will run out of meds and need them called in until I make my next appt , thanks “

I will work up the courage and call tomorrow to get more meds. And then I just have to wait until someone can pick them up for me.

I can understand why you are angry, that seems too frequent to be canceling appointments. Hopefully it's just a fluke and she will be reliable in the future. You could always keep seeing her while waiting for an appointment with someone else since they take awhile to get.

My pdoc's office is exactly the same- frequently cancels appointments, and makes me jump through hoops to get my meds and see my pdoc. I know how you feel and I'm sorry you have to go through that. Like everyone else said, though, you need to call for enough meds to hold you over.

I hate it when doctor's flake for no reason or constantly call out, because it really hurts the patient's. I agree with everything mentioned above you either need to call your pdoc's office and tell one of her nurses that you will run out of your medication before you see her, or call your primary's office and explain the situation and see if maybe they would prescribe enough to get you till when you see your pdoc next.
Medication is not something you want to be without. ![]()

Sounds like his/her secretary(or whoever else is in his office scheduling appointments and shuffling things around) is not doing their job. I would mention my disappointment at the next meeting and ask him how he would like you to handle that situation (if the next available appointment is not possible). Request notice of cancellation or another same day appointment. Also, I would start looking for another clinical office. Maybe your pdoc could recommend someone closer to where you live. I hope those suggestions help. Good luck

I am so sorry. I would be upset too.
Is it possible to look for another pdoc, even if you have to get on a waiting list? Three days a week in the office is hard, not to mention all those cancellations. I think my pdoc of 10 years had 2 cancellations on me, one because she was ill and one because of an urgent emergency involving a patient of hers. She was an extremely good pdoc, but even a halfway decent pdoc shouldn't cancel that often.

I've been seeing my pdoc for over 9 years and never had a cancellation. They have called once or twice to reschedule an appointment. That's it.
