The doc is okay and he's helped when my regular pdoc reschedules me to a month later when I try to move up my appt. Everything else about the IOP sucks though. We seriously do nothing (except the teens wrestle and scream) for 3 1/2 hours, and then during group it's usually just one person talking for the 30 minutes and you can tell that one person isn't going to listen when others say stuff like "you should tell this person that" or "you need to be sober if you want to get better." It's a fricken waste of time imo, and the environment is really stressful because of the loudness and everyone running around.
Should I put up with it just to see a decent doc who has time to listen? I really do hate that place and my symptoms get worse because of how overwhelming the environment is, but I still probably need some med changes and won't see my pdoc for a month and it'll probably be an unhelpful five minute appointment (ten if I'm lucky) or get rescheduled to February. |

Hmmm maybe hanging in there for access to the doc is worth it? At least this way you have a doctor.

I have to go to the program at least 3x a week and the doc checks in on everyone at least once a week but we can ask to check in with him every day.

Is that the only iop around? Last time I went to one I ended up changing to one in a different town. HUGE difference.

Perhaps hanging in there for a little while longer because of the psychiatrist access is a good idea.
I'm assuming you're a teenager? I ask because of the "teen wrestling" reference. I guess some teenagers can be a bit unruly. It's hard for some teachers to keep things under control. I guess it's the same for some therapists, but if that environment is triggering or otherwise bothersome, mention it to your therapist and/or psychiatrist. Heck, you could mention this very topic in your process group. I was never reluctant to speak up about such category of issues when I was a teen. You may not get all the results you want, but maybe some. Or at least I can say that it can feel good to speak your piece. I know, however, that not everyone is as assertive as me. |

I am in the same situation. But I saw a pdoc yesterday so today I just never showed up. My IOP is probs better though. It's in its own giant beautiful building and the classes are informational. But I still hate it. I'll try and go monday. Find a good iop. There's maybe better ones where you live if you live in a large enough city.
