He told me the thought disorder is why I was having the paranoia. Is schizoaffective bp type what he’s taking about?

It's hard to know what he's referring to when he'd said that. It may be best to clarify with him?

I hope things continue to go well for you.

If you have a question about thought disorders your psychiatrist is the person to ask. Psychotherapists are not trained in the diagnosis or treatment of psychotic illnesses. That's really the expertise of your psychiatrist. He'll be the best judge of your symptoms. At your next appointment ask him that question. You'll get an expert answer.

I kind of disagree with this.....

Unless your Pdoc does CBT along with managing meds then is very likely her T will be able to explain the diagnosis more throughly because he knows her better due to seeing her weekly or bi weekly.

Just my opinion of course.

Regardless Hallie ,

I’m glad your doing better and things aren’t as scary , that’s what really matters.

My psychologist is a well known trauma expert. I see her twice a week. I trust her with anything trauma related. If she has a question about my psychotic disorders she always defers to my psychiatrist. He's an MD. 4 years of medical school, 3 years of residency, and is board certified in psychiatry. MDs are the experts on psychosis and their treatment. Psychologists are the experts on psychotherapy and trauma treatment. My question is, does your psychiatrist agree with your psychologist? One time I had a PhD psychologist tell me I had schizophrenia. It devastated me. My psychiatrist was quite annoyed I had been so badly diagnosed. I did not have schizophrenia. I had bipolar 1 disorder with psychotic features. The symptoms are similar but making the diagnosis is subtle. Trust your MD. The correct diagnosis is critical.
Thanks for this!

Hallie is WHO decides who offers her the most info on a diagnosis.

I’m glad your providers are working well for you.

Cheers

Well schizophrenia is very different from bipolar but schizoaffective is very similar. My psyd has known me longer and sees me more frequently in episodes. The
Key diagnostic tip in my case is that I get psychosis even when I’m not in a mood episode. That has happened several times including recently.

I think I can judge who to trust for myself thanks
