Everything has come together and I finally get to start. Hooray!!
I'm excited, ready to learn, and anxious about my roll as newly employed after being unemployed for so long. Normal I suppose. I do have a few things still stuck in my craw I've been trying to think out answers or soothe myself about. Maybe it's a time thing I dunno. If you haven't noticed I'm a very anxious worried person. I don't go directly to worst case scenario, but I do think about it often. The boyfriends drinking and my sleep concerns. Is this going to be a battle? God I hope not. The taxi company I use. They advertise 24/7 service but the voicemail said closed from 3 am to 5 am I need rides at 3:40 am. I talked to one driver and she said make time calls and I would have my rides. Still worried tho. The job is a mile and a half away, would take me over an hour to walk there and I have issues. Like I'm obese, a heavy smoker, and have chronic pain and fatigue. Note these things never stopped me as a Cna and that is a very physical demanding job. People in my life just think I can add that walking in and then work 8 hours and walk home. My physical needs go unconsidered. Checking in with dhhs. I'm only going to be a part time employee and am not sure of my hours yet. Based on what I know they vary week to week and Wal-Mart does not give pay stubs. They have a machine thingy you can print a receipt of your pay stub. You have 10 days to report and I'm going to call Monday with my new but limited info. Also due to their own error they over paid me in food stamps and I have to pay back over 2 grand. This makes me beyond angry. My CSW also said at part time I shouldn't lose my Mainecare. So that's on my brain today. Sorry for all the posts and questions and thoughts lately. A lot going on and many changes. ![]()

Hi Calypso. Does your area have any Uber drivers? Do other employees get off at the same time as you? Could you ask about rideshares where you could give the driver a little money for the lift home? Someone may just like the extra bit of money you'd normally give a taxi. You say you live close to work. I'd think that wouldn't be that inconvenient for someone.
I know it's not cheap, but I saw online that Walmart sells electric scooters for as little as $250, plus you'd likely need a helmet and gas, registration, plate, and maybe insurance and a chain, depending on your state/area. When you consider the cost of taxi bills racking up, it could be worth considering in the future, plus you'd own it. |

Ok. So the scooter thing in Maine. I don't think it's legal to have them on the roads. Laws here are super strict and I don't see any scooters, motorized bikes etc on the main road. Other employees might be an option once I get to know people I'm not just gonna come right out and be like hey can I get a ride...
I do know one person already that opens and she works almost full time so maybe our shifts will line up here and there but I hate feeling like a pest. Blarg!! So I have literally everything I can think of lined up for tomorrow morning the only thing I'm worried about is the incoming bad weather overnight. Possible 4-8 inches. Ugh it's spring!!! Honestly sometimes I think the universe is out to get me...

I hope your orientation goes well!
![]() I honestly feel like an hour walk to and from work would be an unreasonable commute for anyone, regardless of weight or cardiovascular health. I hope you're able to find a solution to your commute. Do you live in an area with a transit system? I find the bus is a decently convenient and relatively inexpensive way to travel compared to taxis. |

Good luck. You are a strong person to do this with your health issues. I hope it goes smoothly.

No we don't have a bus system here. A fair size town but not enough to warrant a bus. The only option really is taxis. Hoping everything goes well. Thanks for the well wishes!!

Not in small town Maine. Lol. Things like that don't exists around here. You have to have licenses and permits to run and drive public transportation apply through the town, be approved. No small feat.
